The smile detection technology in the camera is wonderful. It takes good pictures of my kid who always remains distracted and never gives good pictures when asked for.

I owned a Canon 860IS, but I didn't bring it with me in my trip, so I decided to buy this Sony W170 Black. Comparing to my Canon 860IS: in daylight pictures from W170 are not as colorful. In nighttime twilight mode is taken with too slow exposure so the picture is not sharp - unusable. There are too few scenes and they're generating not as good pictures as automatic mode, so mostly I only use automatic.
Overall operation is slow (switching between taking picture and review mode).
Bright screen, excelent build, fit well in your pocket.
I think I still need to figure out how to take good pictures with this camera, however I was able to take good pictures with the 860IS out of the box, so it is not me.

I researched many different cameras. Specifically Nikon, Olympus, and Sony were my top contenders. For quality features which I was looking for, I settled on the Sony. The Ten megapixels, it's slim size, and the convenient features made it a great buy for me. The ease of use which the camera offers is a major reason why I bought it. I had already owned a Sony camera, and knew that it was a quality product. When I priced around the internet, Abe's had the best price for the product, plus some extra accessories which made it the best purchase for me.

This one does it all!

Nice big screen, high resolution, audio prompts, on-screen editing. Descriptions of photo modes appear right on the screen, so it doesn't leave you guessing about the purpose of functions. Smile detector needs work, and the "Happy Face" editing function is a little surreal.
