This camera is the 4th sony we`ve purchased. The W170 is a replacement for our old DSC-T1 that after 20 some vacations, dropped many times, used by grand children, loaned out and left out in the rain finally died. The DSC-T1 was a good outdoor point & shoot-vacation camera, very rugged, not so good in low light and flash modes. The W170 on the other hand is a pleasure to use in all around situations. The flash is much stronger than the DSC-T1, battery life is much better, camera is lighter, comes in colors (red), better lens and zoom, and unlike the DSC-T1, it has a tripod mount. Don`t misunderstand me, the DSC-T1 was a very good camera for the time frame we bought it in, but with the new design and improvements in the newer W170, the two cameras are really not comparable. This camera could be used professionally on a limited basis and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that is looking to buy a digital camera(even for the first time)that is easy to use and a pleasure to own.

The optical viewfinder does not track the LCD viewfinder. Its off by a very large factor (about 30%!).[...]

I bought this to replace a Sony DSC-200 and I'm very impressed with the advance in technology and the photos. The optical viewfinder is an important feature to me, missing on many cameras in this price range.
