I really enjoy this camera.I use it for mainly friday night football games and it takes wonderful pic's with the low light.The battery runs when the camera is on and that draines it but I bought the extra battery and don't worry about the battery running out.

I purchased this camera specifically for the 20x zoom feature and it is everything I hoped it would be. I can zoom in on birds & wildlife as well as photographing events without distraction to the object of my photograph. Photos and videos are very good quality. I was surprised how large the movies view. I have noticed some image noise in photos where I have extended the zoom all the way and daylight was fading. Love the long life of battery pack. I am a Sony fan all the way!

This camera was very easy to learn to use. Nothing complicated. You can get advanced as you want. The sweep panoramic setting is very cool and the twilight setting works very well in lowlight situations. The pictures are sharp and the colors true. The video is outstanding. The electronic view finder is very small and hard to use, but at least it has one. My only other complaint is; when using the high speed burst (10 frames a second!) it does take a while to reset. The battery has a long life and the software that comes with it is easy to use. Overall I am extremely happy with this camera and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a camera in this price range.

I've owned this camera for 3 weeks and have shot hundreds of pictures. It does everything that it's advertised to do. Unless you're an absolute perfectionist ignore the criticisms online about noise in pictures taken at higher ISO's. They look good to me,and I'm very pleased with my indoor photos taken without flash. HD videos look great on my HD TV. Stereo sound mics are good, but wind noise can be a problem. Super Camera!

After owning a Sony 12x camera for the past 5 years and dragging it all over in my purse and on hikes, it started getting a bit worn out. I wanted a longer focal length and higher megapixel rating. I decided on the Sony DSC-HX1 20x because it was similar to my older camera in weight, dimensions and functions.
My camera arrived the day before a major hike I was going on. The hike featured spring time flowers, lots of waterfalls, wide vistas and different lighting situations. I was VERY happy with the quality of pictures and ease of use. I especially liked the Sweep Panorama button. I also took a lot of pictures using the Program Auto button, so that I could have some control.

I bought this camera for my wife as an intro camera to more advanced photography. She absolutely loves the camera. She can use it as a completely automatic mode or use the more advanced functions as she learns about them. I can't get her to stop taking pictures. The photos are crisp and clear.

I love being able to zoom 20x (optical) with this camera and taking panoramic photos. I'm amazed with the quality of pictures I took outdoors at night, with almost no light. What I don't like on this camera is that sometimes using macro it doesn't focus well and the camera keeps trying to find the focus with no success. It's like it loses focus and it doesn't come back to normal until it resets somehow after a while. I felt this while taking butterfly pictures. It also doesn't have many the scene options, but this is not that important as the other features. I would like that this camera also had a super macro instead of just the regular macro. Still, I love this camera and I think the highlights on it are way more than the few problems I've found on it. It makes an amateur photographer fell like a professional one! :D

I have used, and loved a Sony DSC-H1 for several years, but got it wet taking pictures in the rain. The Sony DSC-HX1 is everything the older camera was, with much higher resolution, full HD video and many other terrific features I'm only beginning to appreciate.

Take it to anywhere...shoot on the move...sports,wildlife,landscape or even the moon at night.The 20X zoom (9 megapixel)/26x (5 megapixel) is very handy at times. The intelligent automode is just another great advantage of DSC-HX1. At night use the hand held twilight mode to take great images even at low light. Use the Sweep panorama to get a very wide angle image.
The HD videos are just terrific, both in day and night. All in all this camera is a great buy at that price.

This camera is much much better than any Nikon High End Zoom Camera's. The main advantage of this camera over Canon is, it has lithium battery for charging.Also the image quality is superb.You may need to take 50 snap inorder to have a perfect grip of the camera. I would say always don't change the settings, when you don't know what to use.

I love this camera! I used it on vacation in Italy and had great results. I especially like the grip where my right hand goes, it gives great stabilization.The panoramic mode is outstanding! It came in very handy when taking photos of the Colosseum and the canals in Venice,and all the basilicas etc.!

I've been using the HX1 for about 2 months. Some criticize the cost as being almost as much as a Digital SLR. The best photos I have taken were with my first Sony Cybershot 8 years ago. Since then I've had 5 cameras and have never been satisfied. I wised up and bought this camera and love it. We had a large outdoor event last weekend where I used the low light, noise reduction, no tripod and the reduced blur when shooting in low light without flash options both with great results. The 20 zoom is clear and sharp. Color is great. Easy hold grip. At this point, I have no complaints. I am a happy camper.

I bought this camera to replace my DSC H50 and WOW. I am extremely happy with this product. The new battery design is great and last a long time. The zoom jumps up to 20x (h50 only 15x) Gone is the useless green nightshot and now the camera takes great pictures at night and in low light (use tripod for best results) I have also notice that the HX-1 no longer has the purple haze that the H50 did. Great camera read the manual and you will really appreciate this camera for all it can do. SMILE!

This camera is not so large and is a great just all around camera cause it takes awesome video's and great pictures as well so you have a complete package instead of carrying around 2 camera's to capture your special moments. I researched advanced point-and-shoots for MONTHS, and agonized over the best camera for my needs and budget. I knew I'd have to live with this camera for several years, and didn't want to spend good money on a camera that wouldn't perform.

I chose this over the Canon PowerShot SX10,and it was an agonizing decision, but the best one for me. I needed the zoom, and the low-light and action capabilities. I'd read that I'd lose image quality over the Canon, but I finally decided that since I wasn't big on printing (mostly just posting to the web to share with family and friends) I'd go with the one with the better features. And it's worked out perfectly.

This isn't an SLR - so don't compare it to one. But it's great for zooming in on a face on the stage or the field, and for capturing a child in constant motion.

I was torn between the Cyber-shot DSC-HX1 and the Panasonic Lumix FZ-35 and the Sony won out. What sold me on the Sony was it's ability to take pic's in low light as well as the panorama feature. I just retired a Pana. Lumix FZ-7 and even though it's out of date it still takes great pic's. I think that either camera would have made me very happy, you just have to be very honest with yourself when you determine your specific needs.

While the image quality is not the greatest it could be in this range, the features on this camera make it a very worthwhile buy. The panoramic function and the burst shots (up to 10 per second!) make for some really excellent shots. The battery usually lasts about three hours, and the 20x zoom makes for some great wildlife shots.

The camera is, however, a bit quirky, in that navigating through its menus and features can be tricky without reading the manual thoroughly. There is no hotshoe or way to hook up a remote flash, so I mostly do non-flash stuff. Also, don't forget to remove the lens cap, because it will energetically pop off when you turn the camera on.

Overall, I am VERY happy with it!

I owned several cameras but when digital passed the 5mp threshold, I made my move to digital. By the time I bought my 2nd digital, I recognized that I could rely on digital media for all my photographic quests.

Six cameras later, I'm at the HX1 and cann't imagine I'll ever see anything better suited to my efforts to preserve memorable sights.

The burst modes serve to insure me of getting that "one shot" often available for wildlife or to get that moment of "just right" light on a canyon's spire.

I considered a digital slr but I'm not inclined to have time to assemble all the "gadgets" for a given shoot. Rather, the compactness of this all-in-one with its heafty zoom and resolution (not to mention its panoramic and great HD video capability) make the HX1 my final choice camera.

I do wish Sony would offer screw-on haze and polorizing filters to fit the lens barrel of the HX1. But then, I suppose we sometimes have to wait for perfection...

This is a nice looking camera. It's easy to hold for some one like me who has small hands,but my thumb got in the way of the buttons in the back. There are pros and cons to every camera, this one is no different. I felt that the lens is shaky while zooming out, probably because of the light weight of the body,and the extra long zoom. You definitely need a tripod. When shooting in low light,its takes time to process each shot.
When turning on the camera, the LCD turns on every time, it has to be turned off to proceed with shooting. I do not use the LCD to compose.
The diopter is small and difficult to use.
The EV is small,takes some getting used to. Would rather have an optical viewfinder. Would like to have macro mode option in the in scene mode. Too many menu options, can create confusion at first. Need a lot of patience in learning. Best to get more familiar before taking some serious photos.Read your manual carefully. This is not an SLR. But for those that love everything rolled into one camera, this is feature rich and will make a gadget enthusiast happy. As for a point and shoot compact, this is a great camera.

After using 2-3 different types of DSLRs and compacts, I needed a camera for wide range of purposes to zoom capability was in my top of the list, decent low-light/indoor quality without flash was also needed. This camera takes amazing pictures in low light, and 10fps sports-style mode is amazing to capture high-motion scene. Sweeping panorama is very intelligent and handy when you want to take picture that doesn't fit in a single frame. Over all, video quality is way better than my dedicated flash-based canon camcorder, so I will give this camera best possible rating.

I've had the Sony DSC-XH1 digital camera for a few weeks now. It takes great pictures on a sunny day, but on cloudy days the pictures are not as good, but with my photo editing program I can make them look great. The image stabilization is better on the Sony DSC-XH1 than the DSC-H5. I like the large LCD screen and that it can tilt.

The low light picture capability on this camera is so amazing!! It really enables you to take clear pictures with very low noise inside but without having to use a flash!! The details in the highlights and shadows is particularly good. Plus, the panoramic feature is really unique + cool. I can't think of anything I don't like about this camera. I spent a great deal of time checking out comparable cameras--I even borrowed some cameras from friends to try them out--and finally decided on the Sony DSC-HX1. I take a great deal of low light pics w/o a tripod or flash and the multi-frame low-light setting is spectacular. Back lit pics and high contrast shots come out beautifully. The 20x zoom is more than adequate for any situation. The panorama feature takes a bit of getting used to but for outdoor scenes with an even distance it is quite useful and easy to use. I am amazed with the video quality; it is easily as good as my digital video camera and unlike some of the competition, it allows for zooming while you are shooting. I was hesitant about the size as I like to have something small when I travel. While it isn't pocket size, it is very light and easy on the neck and I hardly noticeable to carry. The only drawback that I can see is that the lens doesn't allow for screw-in filters.

I bought this camera in addition to my DSLR to have a smaller lighter camera to travel with. It takes great pictures and has a great LCD screen. It is also great in low light. I bought this camera cause I wanted something a little smaller than my Nikon SLR, yet had good picture quality and would be able to take action pictures of my dogs. This camera fit the bill. It takes great videos as well. Haven't had it long enough to play with all the features that's the only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating. So far I've found it's easy to use and you can put it on the Easy setting and not do anything but shoot or play around with the many different setting and experiment. I haven't had it but a few days but am in love with it. Shot a soccer game that one of my 22 grandchildren played in and it was the first time I could really get some good stop-action with the quick firing of the fast shutter. Love the 20X zoom and not having to fool with additional lenses. Smile recognition feature and pan-stitching couldn't be easier to use.

Someone told me that even though the HX1 is a very good camera, it's not like the point and shoots that came before it. That is true. There is a learning curve to getting the best from this camera but it's worth it. I'm still discovering the many things it can do and have taken some awesome shots, some by accident.

Wanted a Super Zoom to replace my A2, and chose this over Nikon P90. The software and menu set are terrific, and the transition has been easy so far. Even using the separate Telephoto converter is easy.

I am currently in Sun Valley Idaho and getting some great results of Blue filtered deep field telephotos of peaks, and the panorama setting is a hoot! Could stop action a Prong Horn with the 10 shot high speed burst, so lot's to learn and experiment with. With an 8 gig card, I can shoot til my index finger cramps. Truly a great travel camera.

Only real bad thing is the pitiful viewfinder, which I like to have available for bright light conditions (when even this terrific 3" Hi-Def LCD Screen is hard to see). The viewfinder is simply too small to be usable.

Otherwise, just a great fun camera to use.

Just got this Sony HX1. This is my 3rd mega zoom camera. Wow, what a great little camera. I'd classify it as semi-pro. With the CMOS sensor it's about as close to an SLR as you can get without being an SLR. iAuto works for just about everything which makes it a point and shoot camera with plenty of adjustments and choices for special situations. The LCD screen tilts for odd angle viewing. Good clarity with both zoom and macro.

I have had this camera for a few days having replaced my Konica Minolta A2 with it. While the A2 has the ability to add filters, the HX1 has so much more in the way of presets and auto shoot modes. The photo quality seems great and the camera is so easy to use and get used too. The only problem is the EVA's small size renders it almost useless. But that 3" LCD - wow!
