Great Camera for use in ALL Conditions.
First week i owned it I took it to Oktoberfest in Munich. After a weekend of being sipped in beers and many great pictures, I'm in love with this Camera. It's since been Snorkeling as well!
I've owned many other Sony DSC Cameras. I was very excited to get one that is waterproof and shock proof. (and freeze and dustproof)
Takes great pictures!
The Exmor lens is great for low light.
Oh and the intelligent sweep Panorama mode is Awesome.
I HIGHLY recommend this Camera!

This camera is really great if you take pictures outdoors a lot. We fish quite a bit and are constantly around water, sand, rain, cold weather, etc. It's nice not to worry about the camera getting damaged from any of these elements. Picture quality is very good for a point and shoot and it's compact and easy to use. It's got plenty of extra features to help you get the best shots possible, but it's also very easy to use in auto mode as well. Only negative I've seen so far is the battery life is a little short if you're taking pictures all day. You may want to consider an extra battery. Bottom line, you may be able to find another compact point and shoot that can take better photos, but not one as rugged as this. If you need a camera that you can use around water, sand, etc. this one is great and we've been pleased with it so far.

A great, compact, fits in your shirt pocket camera. The shock proof, waterproof, etc gives you peace of mind that you won't ruin it. Easy to use touch screen. Fun little camera. But bad zoom. Takes decent video, too. Sound was good recording in the middle of the croud at RedRocks.

I bought this camera to use for in water activities on vacation and got way more than I bargained for. The panorama feature is amazing as are the lowlight pictures. Everyone on my vacation with me fell in love with the camera and told me they were going to buy one. A few wanted to steal mine from me!

I bought this for my gf who lost her other waterproof camera. It was a definate improvement over her panasonic.

The only gripe is that the anodize/paint chips off after heavy use.. She's trying to get Sony to replace it.

Other than that, she loves it. Takes great underwater photos too!

This is a smart and fun little camera. It takes great pictures, is easy to use and, as my eyes are a little older, the large LCD screen makes framing and focusing easy, even without my reading glasses.

The major drawback is the short battery life - rated for about 240 pictures. If you are shooting in low light conditions the flash will drain the battery pretty quickly. You can extend the number of pictures you shoot on a single charge if you turn the flash off. I shot some beautiful pictures at night and got great results using ambient light.

Small and lightweight, it fits easily in my pocket. I love the panoramic mode. The menu controls are easy to use and the intelligent shooting mode does a great job 95% of the time. The burst mode is great for shooting action, though there's a bit of a lag as it records to the disc.

I'm really enjoying using this camera and appreciate that it is water and shock proof - I haven't tried dropping it, and don't plan to, but it's nice to know that it can take a little abuse.

If you're looking for an easy to use, highly portable camera that takes good pix, works well in low light, and is fun to have around, look no further.

Every family needs THIS camera. I think I love the waterproof feature the most. Shooting underwater photos and video in the pool this summer is fun for me and the kids. The camera is so easy to use and so quick to shoot that the kids can do it. (It's also fun to have the kids toss me the camera in the pool and watch the reaction of people who watch the camera fall in the water!) Because it is "shock proof" I don't care if the kids grab the camera and run around with it. They've dropped, banged and thrown the camera (at each other) a few times already and it still works great! I took my previous digital point and shoot on a canoe trip and it fell in the drink -dead. I did a lot of research comparing the Olympus "Tough" with the Sony TX5. I liked the Sony responsiveness and slim design better than the Olympus. I am a little worried about the battery compartment on the Sony, since the sealed door seems a lot more fragile than the one on the Olympus. (This is probably the only drawback on the design when compared to the Olympus.) Since I am an iPod guy, I love the touch screen, which is also easy to figure out. My five year old can switch between photo and movie mode easily. I would recommend a good, quality screen protector so your screen doesn't get all scratched up. If the screen gets screwed up from scratches, I assume that would be a major issue in camera operation. The metal side has a few minor scratches on it from regular use, but nothing major. I also recommend a camera case for this product to reduce the scratches on the metal. The other recommendation is the floating strap. Even though the camera is waterproof, it won't help if the camera falls over in the ocean or in a lake, where it will sink to the bottom. The floating strap already saved my camera once on a boating trip! You don't need to buy the Sony strap - any aftermarket will do. The Sony one was too pricey. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase of the TX5. Photo and movie quality are great for the average family guy, point/shoot, kid-proof user. You won't get SLR quality, but really, who cares? I can carry the camera in my bathing suit pocket and it is ready to shoot in two seconds! Getting the shots, when I want them, is really what it is all about! Also recommended are a 4GB memory card and the extra battery. A fully charged battery lasted almost a whole week of vacation photos and viewing, but I had to finally swap out to the spare towards the end. A 4GB memory card allows you to keep the photo quality setting on high and still store lots of pictures and movies. Buying from Abe's of Maine saved me money and was quick. I did go to other retailers to hold and handle the cameras beforehand. I suggest you do the same to compare the quality first-hand, but shop online at Abe's to get the best price [...].

It was overall a good camera. I was deciding between this Sony TX-5 and Panasonic TS2. In the end I purchased the Sony because it doesn't look too rugged for a woman.

I wanted a true all in one camera, but this failed big time with poor video quality especially indoors. Excellent indoor no flash photos, but when using flash the background becomes too dark. Would like to see compression settings so files aren't so big. Nice touch screen, but I rather trade it in for a dedicated video button. On the plus side, it's super small, best response time among the waterproof cameras, long battery life. I guess it's tough to have it all plus waterproof.

I'm 18 and I got this camera to shoot everyday pictures, whenever I'm out with friends, or at the pool or anywhere! It's an awesome camera. I love the sliding lense cover and would not buy a camera where the lense automatically slides out (I've gone through a canon with that and it malfunctioned and stopped working, wouldn't go back in, etc--hated it). The underwater pictures are super crispt and the panoramic is SO long and the stitching is perfect. Main extras that convinced me it was perfect were underwater and panoramic and both are terrific! [$] very well spent. The black color is also super sleek!

Great compact camera. I'm no pro, but great image quality and does a pretty good job in low-light. Camera's also waterproof, so it was a nice addition at the beach. Compact, Easy to use, and fairly nice quality. Everything you really can expect from a compact point and shoot.

Great small camera for outdoors by the pool and beach for easy casual shooting. Compact size makes it easy to use as secondary camera.

With today's technoligy, better zoom capability, some manual features, and better resolution would have made it perfect.
