Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 10.2 MP Digital Camera - Silver:

I actually usually use a Canon digital SLR, but bought this for my wife. It is compact, light, easy to use and takes great pictures! And I love the sweep panorama feature! While I was hesitant to spend $300+ on a compact camera, it was well worth it.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 10.2 MP Digital Camera - Silver:

I use the camera outdoors to capture video of my dog running, humming bird, digital pictures of people and animals, panorama views. Touch screen is very easy to use. Camera features are versatle and adequate for for my use. Pocket size means I always have the camera with me. Intelligent auto mode means everyone can use the camera close up to far away. The only negative is keeping my left hand holding camera out of view of the lens and correcting red-eye on my dogs. Battery life has proven to be adequate, if I don't take too much video. I recommend a spare battery when on vacation, spare memory card if shoot lots of video.

The camera is very easy to use and the pictures come out very clear. Additionally, I used to have problems with red-eye with previous cameras (different manufacturer). With this camera, I've had no issues.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 10.2 MP Digital Camera - Silver:

The first thing that struck me was how small and thin the camera is when you see it in real life. The next thing I noticed was the huge rear screen with touch controls. It's just like using an ipod Touch & iPhone but you can use the back of your finger nail and just hold it over the item for it to register as a tap.

It comes with a small plastic tool that has a pen-like point on one end to select from the screen to help prevent all the fingerprints that are left behind, but as the back is all screen, you can't help but get them on it regardless. The other end has a clip it hang it from a laynard around your neck for instance. I might try to find a plastic cover for the screen like on my SLR screen.

I found that I sometimes had to move my finger from in front of the lens as it's located in the top right corner. I could see the finger in the shot before taking it though. Had it been more central or at least over a bit more it wouldn't have ever been an issue. It hasn't taken more than a couple times to learn to watch my digits though.

It has a stand you have to mount it into to connect the camera to a HDMI device or the USB of your computer. I would have preferred ports in the camera body, but hey did I mention how small this thing is? I always prefer to pop out the card and use the built-in card reader slot on my laptop so it likely won't see much use by me.

It takes Sony's memory stick BUT also accepts SDHC cards which I have plenty of. There's built in memory for maybe a dozen or so photos but that's likely really for the panorama and 10 frames per second burst modes it's capable of. Hey, that's about 3 times faster my digital SLR!

I was attracted to camera because of the panorama mode. I do that kind of thing all the time with my SLR and use software to later stitch them together, but this camera does it internally and lets you see the photo after a few seconds of processing! Can't wait to play with this feature more.

However, if the panned view has some kind of blank or featureless section in it, I found the camera ended the panorama at that point. I assume the software can no longer match up frames because my computer software application I've always used in the past fails on that same issue.

I was surprised to find so many modes like one that is for self-portraiture. It takes the shot automatically (no need to press the button) that is triggered when it locks onto your facial features (I think there's a couple seconds lag once it's locked in so you can smile and such). There are also features to that look for smiles before it shoots in portraits! By the way, did I mention how small this camera is?

There's no shutter lag to worry about at all, unless you're trying to get something like a shot of a bullet going through a balloon...

You could be forgiven for thinking there's no flash on the camera because it's just a narrow slot instead of the regular large rectangle you expect. A friend who I'd photographed indoors with the flash enabled was shocked at how much light it let off.

The sliding cover works well, but I'd rather it have some (automated?) cover over just the lens, considering how small the lens opening is. I'm thinking that after a few years, this large moving part just might somehow get broken off or jammed (got kids?)

Did I mention how small this thing is? Well, it's not going to be a problem sliding this thing into the pocket of a pair of skin tight jeans or loosing it at the bottom of a purse. It's thinner than my wallet filled with all my credit and id cards.

That brings me to the battery. Be prepared for some sticker shock. Like all OEM batteries, it's premium priced (and how!). Only Sony makes them so you don't have any other options yet. I'd still get one before I headed off on a holiday.

The battery is not much larger than a fancy postage stamp and just a bit thicker. Since it's so small, you shouldn't expect it to have a lot of power to go days between charging while photographing ruins on a Greek island. The battery also comes with a charger so that's one more charger to carry with me on a trip...

Like any digital camera, it has sounds but not the usual fake 'click' sound or the 'whirrr' sound of a motor drive when you snap a shot. It's fairly quiet too. I still wish I could turn off all the sounds for times when I'm in a situation where I don't want to attract any attention to myself (like when hidden in a closet taking pictures of someone who will remain nameless).

It's a fantastic on-my-person camera that I can have with me all the time, unlike my much larger SLR and lenses. Getting those one-in-a-million shots of a UFO crash site with obligatory alien bodies or a winner showing the house on fire after starting to deep-fry turkey on the patio, will be far easier to capture! :)

I think that just about covers it.
