I am very much new at using SLR cameras but have used lenses with my Canon film camera. THis one is great. I am not doing anything fancy with camera yet but what I have done has taken crisp clear pictures. Got some great shots of my niece because I could take her picture w/o her knowing it from across the room. And once I get through the whole manual I am sure I will be even happier with it.

This is a great all-around lens! It won't give you the super-closeups or the sweep wide-angles, but it'll give you pretty much everything in-between. This is a perfect general starting lens. My husband just bought the D90 for me for my birthday and I saved up the money to buy this lens. GREAT COMBINATION! And Abe's was very quick.

In terms of sharpness this lens definitely outperforms the standard 18-55 kit lens, and, to some degree even the 55-200 VR. It's heavy compared with the most basic "normal" lens, but the "pros" definitely outweigh the "cons." It's the best addition I have made to my camera bag in quite a while.

This is a great walk-around lens. Not too heavy, but not nearly as light as the tamron. It has a fast focus speed and recovers well when it can't find an object to focus on. Stabilization is a must for hand-held indoor shooting and works well. I wish it had a little more reach, but compared to the nikon 18-200, this lens takes perfect pictures at both 18mm and 105mm.
