My first Sigma lens...Previously, I have bought all Sony lenses for my Alpha 100 and now 700.
I like this lens as an overall utility lens. It takes a while to focus and really eats away at the battery though. That is my one big negative for this lens.

Great lens for all-around use where you want an extended zoom range without the need to carry several lenses. I have only had the lens for a few weeks, but the images seem sharp with little edge blurring or color abberation.
My uses are varied with some landscape and portrait photography and some action/wildlife (I take a lot of pictures at dog shows and capturing the essence of the dogs movement is important).
I like the zoom-lock feature to prevent the lens from extending while carrying. With the built-in micro motor for focusing, the focus is fast and I have had little problem with focusing in most situations. The 72mm objective lens provides plenty of light for fast shutter speeds need for action, even at longer focal lengths.
The major drawbacks to date are that the zoom is quite stiff and the lens is a bit hefty. Whether the zoom will get easier with use is yet to be seen. Not too much to be done about the weight with objectives of this size, but it beats needing to lug an extra lens or two.
This lens and a Sony 500mm reflex autofocus are generally the only two I carry.
