For the amount we spent on this kit we expected a sturdy kit. After about 20 hours of playtime however, the kick pedal broke at the switch. We are in contact w/ the manufacturer and hope to get this resolved.
Some of the keys that come with the kit to attach it to the stand weren't welded properly, but the MFR supplies more. Perhaps that isn't a good sign. It took about an hour to set up.
Other than the kick pedal, this kit is great. It's fully adjustable where you put the pads, kick pedal and cymbals. The playability level has risen many levels, and it's a lot of fun to play.
With the caveat about the pedal, I would recommend this kit.

I have no musical talent other than in Rock Band, but drums are my medium of choice and these drums will hopefully afford me the opportunity of expanding into the "real" world of music someday. Very customizable, sturdy, and all around cool product. Quieter than the stock drums for 1 OR 2, allowing for more ear-friendly volume levels. Now if only they weren't so darn expensive.

After breaking a few drum sets for rockband and guitar hero because of the flimsy design, I was about to build my own, but then the ion came out. I wasn't sure on spending that kind of money for a drum set used for gaming, but I was tired of the useless pieces of junk rockband and guitar hero were coming out with. So I took a gamble and bought the ion. It was pretty easy to set up, took some time, but you didnt have to be a genius to set it up. When I played it for the first time, there was a major improvement to my score. I was no longer missing notes that on a rockband or guitar hero drumset wouldn't have registered. The footpedal is solid so its pretty much impossible to break it. The overall design of the set is amazing and I couldn't be happier with my set. I would recommend this set to anyone who is tired of the cheap rockband or guitar hero drum sets and want something that is durable and can take a beating and still work like new.

This is a great set for rockband. Being a real drummer i found the nice big set, great rebound, and sleek looking (interchange) design a lot better than the small original set. this set the most played in my household. Some people or kids may need a long learning curve if not placed in typical way and because of the bigger pads. I didn't like how the pads got dirty fast, but i realized using a rubber cleaner/restorer worked great bringing back newness.

I kept hearing people say about how loud and clanky the bass pedal is but it wasn't bad, decent if you don't gorilla stomp it.

I would recommend, if haven't already.. learn better technique to get the most out of this set. Cymbals are loud but using a mute can quiet them. though i wouldn't recommend it i just use the rubber side, but isn't always accurate but very quiet.

It took many different songs style to finally find the perfect setup for in game playing while having the natural feel of drum set during freestyle, sometimes its always a matter of an inch or tilt.

This set sturdy, but i found myself always moving back and forth next door neighbor house (parties) to mine, as this set can be heavy if you have no help.

too bad the ion isn't wireless but still great regardless. I would recommend getting "Rock Pedal" to replace bass pedal.

Love this set. Works great and got the best price around from abes.[...] the extra 5 pair of drumsticks was nice. If you have any issues with the cymbals just search around on the internet as there are ways to tune them.

1 hour after opening the box with the help of a friend this masterpiece of a drum set was put together. It's VERY sturdy, easy but time consuming to put together but it's VERY worth it. After getting used to your pads being farther apart your scores should sky rocket, just do yourself a favor and order this with a destroyer pedal so you don't have to use the terrible ion stock pedal... other than the stock pedal this kit could not be better.

When I first ordered the Ion, I was skeptical as to whether or not it would be worth the hefty price tag, and I probably would not have gotten it had my RB2 stock kit not broken down. Even on my initial play throughs with it I was not convinced that it was significantly better. Once I got the pads right where I want them and got used to the cymbals, however, I began to realize how fantastic this kit is. Just one glance back at the RB2 kit and it becomes obvious that the Ion is in an entirely different league. If you have the cash and really love Rock Band, I would go for it.

First off by far abesofmaine had the best price for this product. was able to get the set and the expansion cymbal for just over three hundred with shipping.

this product is great for the game. adds much more fun to it. to those that say it takes a long time to set up this set let me tell you go set up a accustic or electronic drum set. yes it does take about a half or more to put it all together when you first get it.

there is one big con for me on this set, the cymbals. i was dissapointed by the fact that they skip/don't pick up a constant 16 note hits when your playing at a decent speed. also the bass pedal is not a real bass pedal to loose of a feel, it would be great for the cymbal pedal of an electronic set but thats it.

On a better note this set is way better than the rb2 or rb1 drum set. you can set up the pads in a more realistic drum set feel which is great. they bounce back like a practice drum pad which is nice and the pads do pick up the notes but if your in free play they can't handle a roll.

This drum kit is light years ahead of the Rock Band 1 or 2 kit. The pads are firm but offer good rebound. The peddel is solid, will withstand a good pounding and has a decent amount of spring resistance. The kit itself is easy to adjust for different size drummers.

For a serious Rock Band player there's really nothing better on the market right now that's a plug and play solution for the game.

The ION drum rocker is great and I use it everyday. I would recommend it hands down to anyone. Surprisingly the bass pedal that comes with it is really good, but I'd say shell out some money on the destroyer. In any case, I'm in the top 50 drummers on Xbox Live, and this has improved my game quite a bit. Don't hesitate to drop the money on it and get the warranty as well, I'm 100% sure you won't regret it. By first getting I really didn't think I'd get to see my money's worth, but you have to understand it's basically an indestructible drum set that lasts for 5 years and you can return it for a brand new one if it starts to wear down. In any case, I love it, the setup was a bit of a pain, but you spend time playing on it, not setting it up constantly. Great product, now buy it.

This is for the Serious Rockband/ Guitar Hero Drummer. An excellent purchase. I suggest purchasing a Destroyer Pedal along side this set for the ultimate experience because the pedal that it comes with isn't the same quality as the rest of the set, although it is a huge improvement over the stock pedal.

This is a fantastic Rock Band drumkit that is very much worth the price. It really improves your drumming over the standard kit and playing with cymbals feels fantastic. The only cons I can state about this is that its a pain to put together and it takes awhile before you'll be drumming at full ability. But overall, its fantastic. if you're serious about Rock Band drums, do not pass these up.

I use the ION Drum rocker with my Xbox360 and Rock Band 2. I enjoy the feel of the kit as well as the performance. The pads have performed flawlessly and they have been able to take a good beating during those rock you out endings in Rock Band 2!!! The kit was easy to assemble which had me up and rockin' with my friends in no time!! I have a link to this site in my signature for the rock band forums.

After playing the kit for a few weeks now, I have not been able to detect any real issues with it. I have already told several friends about the kit already and will continue to do so. Abe's of Maine's sales staff was very courteous and extremely helpful while answering my questions about this product. Setup was easy enough. Once you look at the instructions, it should be enough to put the set together. What I like about that the most, though, is that after you put down the base, it is adjustable in many ways. You can put a cymbal off to the left, and move the snare onto another level, or you can set it up like a higher quality Rock Band set. The only con in the way it's setup, however, is that the stand can only go so high. So, for me with my long legs, it feels like I'm towering above my set, instead of knee-deep in it like on other drumsets.
That aside, performance is great. The pads are responsive and give slightly more rebound than the Rock Band 2 set. The cymbals are a bit less durable, but it's forgivable that it can function with 3rd party drum pieces.
So, all in all, if you're curious whether you should upgrade to the Ion, I say yes. It's a pretty cheap electronic drumset, and my only regret is that I didn't just buy it in the first place instead of going through the Rock Band 2 set first.

I have been playing rockband and it's sequil since it came out. i bought it because i thought the drums seemed fun when my friend bought it. started on easy and worked my way up.

i was always very frustrated at the original fragile drums and these register perfectly in addition to being able to shift them about to exactly where you want them to be.

durable, fully adjustable and accurate. nothing to hate really.

I absolutely love this thing. I got it after I found out I had some natural talent for drumming as I play only on expert. You can set this up anyway you like and I set mine up like a read drumkit. The only drawback to this is the cymbals, they CONSTANTLY double hit. Some ppl say theirs dont so hopefully if you get one yours doesnt. I have sinced replaced the cymbals with Pintech TC-10s and they are MUCH better.

This drum set is fantastic. You can twist turn and angle the drum pads in an direction and even swing the snare drum toward the middle like a proper drum set. I highly recommened. The feel of the pads are great (good rebound action). Overall quality is night and day compared to the standard rock band kit. If you can spend it, DO IT!

It's roughly 50 times better than the one that comes with the game. Is it worth it? Only if you intend on using it for a MIDI kit later on, or play RockBand competitively. Well, or if you have [$] to blow. However, playing on this thing allows for less noise, a more realistic feel, perfect triggering, and the foot pedal not only won't break, but can handle heel-toe technique significantly better.
