Purchased a Canon Xsi for gift. We take a fair amount of group shots at get togethers, parties, etc. Went back and forth between this and the "sexier" RC-5 Canon remote.
This RC-1 is great--simple to use--just point and click and the built in sensor on the camera takes over (I thought that it may have been physically clipped on over the shutter--it's not--nothing else attaches to the camera).
The two-second delay is very useful as it gives you time to hide the remote in your hand so that the remote doesn't show in the picture. The "instant mode" would be helpful if you are just out of the frame and want to snap 3-6 pictures of the group. You just click and the shutter opens. We used that taking some candid shots of the toddlers playing.
