Garmin nuvi 255 is very good entry level gps. has poor signal reception when driving in streets with high raised buildings. points of interests have old addresses.minor issues with menu navigations.
Comments about GARMIN Nuvi 255 Portable Automotive GPS System with North American Maps:
This device is very compact that I can carry it to go anywhere. The "speed limit" and "estimated arrival time" layouts are helpful. Text to speech function is a plus. The only thing missing is the ability to read step by step move. But what can I say, this is just an entry level GPS.

Good for medium use, not too quick connect in city.

we wanted a gps that spoke street names and didn't have all the features that they make you pay for and you never use.Very easy to use right out of the box and very accurate

Comments about GARMIN Nuvi 255 Portable Automotive GPS System with North American Maps:
I've only used it for a few hours on the road so far but I'm very happy with it. I read many reviews and also consumer reports and decided I wanted this model due to it's text to speech (fancy talk for: it says street names out loud also instead of just 'turn right in 500 feet'). Also I don't need the wide screen - wide screen has qwerty keyboard but the abc keyboard is fine and rarely do you need to type more than 4 or 5 characters before it finds the town/street name you are looking for.
I think the wide screens are over priced (like automobiles - base sticker is good deal, get power windows for $4000 more).
The voices are great. I was nervous about the voice quality as I had read some complaints but I can hear it fine on highway in the car and pronunciation is great.
The user interface is amazingly simple! Too simple for power users but I love it. Very little clutter or confusion. Often there are only 2 choices with huge icons. The user interface is very impressively simple (I design user interfaces for my job). Of course I found this to be true on most gps models - not just Garmin.
POI is great also. If I ask for any restauraunt it doesn't show just how far they are and their name but also shows if it is ahead or behind me. And it shows many at the same time. It showed me a hospital nearby that I never even knew about.
It's ability to quickly route me where I want to go works fine, every street seems accurate, the presentation of the streets graphically is simple and easy to glance at and read, overall it's basic functionality of getting you there is just fine. I don't need fancy features that other gps can give me (like traffic, fancy trip recording, ability to add more waypoints, etc).
