Great product! This is my first GPS purchase. I bought it based on an earlier Garmin model that a friend of mine has. I liked that one because it spoke the street names. The main features I like about this GPS are:

1) Spoken street names
2) Rapid satellite acquisition
3) Rapid re-calculation of route information.

Haven't really had a chance to check out the traffic features yet, this is why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

One interesting thing I noticed while testing it which I found interesting is that it even recognized a round-a-bout (which are relatively rare here in the US). Not only did it recognize it, it also told me (in advance and based on where I entered the round-a-bout) which one of the "spokes" to exit on.

The other day I was taking my wife to the movies and I knew how to get there, just not the fastest route. I punched the address into the GPS and it couldn't find it. I tried several different address combinations, still no go. I started to get frustrated, then I remembered the Points of Interest database. Plugged in "nearest movie theaters" and BAM!, there it was ... just selected it and hit go. Turns out the address from the website was incorrect. Saved the day and saved me having to convince my wife that it was worth the purchase!

I purchased this for my fiancé. She's not the best with directions, and the unit seems to help out quite a bit. However, don't really push your luck with the traffic feature - it seems to leave off traffic on some roads where you'd expect it. I'm not sure if these roads aren't included on the traffic reporting or not yet, but still, it seems limited. The other weakness is the GPS acquiring... it seems a bit slow, even on clear days. A lot of devices that have built-in GPS still seem to have this issue - unless they're incredibly expensive - at least from what I've seen.

Otherwise, the unit is top-notch, well made, and well-designed with the included accessories. Well done Garmin!

Decent system, not great. There should be an easilly accessible mute button on the main screen. As it is, you have to go through several clicks to mute the system...difficult to do as you try to take a cell phone call or are talking to a passenger. The menus tend to be pretty deep, and you have to back out of eveything instead of going straight back to the beginning.

Navigationally, the system too frequently comes up with baffling routes. Not that they're incorrect, just that they don't really get you there the shortest/fastest way. (You can set a preference for shorter or faster routes...I always use faster...and often the route chosen is not short nor fast.) It would be fine if the system learned from it's mistakes, and/or asked you if you wanted to save your route vs. it's route but it doesn't.

I used multiple Garmin products and always was very fond of them, but this one needs some fixing.

Traffic avoidance is just a wreck, it takes you off the highway when it's free and does not say anything about traffic when it's a jam. Also is loses satellite sometimes, which i did not notice in other Garmin GPS models

I've used the unit to navigate me to several unfamiliar locations and it was dead on every time. The screen size and picture quality are great, and voice directions are a big help, especially in heavy traffic. All in all I'm completely satisfied with this unit and I highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a portable vehicle GPS unit. I did however purchase the Garmin portable friction mount which makes it easier to move the unit from one vehicle to another without a hassle.

I am a photographer. Shooting different locations demands expeditious route planning. The Garmin lets me do that, avoid trffic congestion, and, if late at night in a unfamiliar territory, gets me back safely!

I have taken 2 trips with the nuvi and both times it has helped me avoid traffic tie ups and I've gone an alternate route. I like that it announces the street name, means I don't have to take my eyes off the road to look at the unit - had a Garmin street pilot before and always had to check the screen to make sure i was turning where I should.

Bought the unit on a trip to the States. First acquisition of satellites took about 2 minutes, then 10-15 seconds after that. Great at route planning and recalcs when you deviate from the route. Now back in Thailand; initial acquisition of satellites took three times - it wanted to find my last location in the States. Now, acquisition is fast again 10-15 seconds. Garmin no longer sells maps of Thailand, but the unit works great with after-market maps; Thailand's roads are notoriosly difficult to follow due to many spellings of the same name - I use Google Earth to get the GPS coordinates of where I'm going, plug them in, and it calcs the fastest route quickly. Easy to read in all lights. Intuitive menu. Great bang for the buck!

A number of locations that were on a previous unit aren't on this one. Some addresses aren't accepted. The additional features, particularly, the traffic monitoring, are very useful.

I am an Outside Salesperson that drives about 25,000 miles per year, mostly in the New England states, down to Virgina. Getting reliable performance with lifetime free FM traffic was a must. This unit delivers fine on both accounts. The bluetooth handsfree connection to my Blackberry 8310 was a great plus. The address book syncs nicely and voice dialing even works. Though, it seems I need to use the Blackberry's volume controls for the call. No, the phone isn't crystal clear on either end, but no one has complained, and I am productive while driving much more safely and comfortably now. The settings were very good out-of-the-box, but my old Mio 310x (stolen a year ago) seemed more intuitive and adjustable on the fly to me, but that might simply be a result learning on the Mio, as it was my first GPS unit. I give the Garmin 265WT a top rating without hesitation. It has everthing I want and nothing that I don't.

Bought this for a trip to L.A.since we haven't been out there in over a decade. This unit acquires the satellite signal quite rapidly, occasionally getting the signal before I've backed out of the garage. On the downside POI searches tend to take a long time. Spoken directions are really helpful in stressful driving situations but can be verbose otherwise. All in all, we're very pleased with this unit.

i love this product. i especially like the bluetooth, i synced my phone with it and when im in the car i can talk hands free with out the bluetooth on my ear, the best part is u can dial from the gps itself. the only thing that took a little bit of patients was the setup, so the gps could get the satellite signal, but other than that its a great product, and would definetly refer to friends.

Generally, I like this gps very much. It is very easy to use. The screen is clear and bright. The audio voice is easy to understand, and the traffic service is great. Once it alerted me to a traffic problem, it rerouted me to a way around the problem.
What I do not like is that recalculations are slow, but they are no intolerably slow. I also find that it often does not find the most direct route. Even so, in area that you are not familiar with, it directs you to the address which you programed it to find.

This is a great product. I love that you can adjust the size of the map and that it is easy to see. I bought the friction mount which makes it easy to swith from car to car and leaves no telltale mark on the windshield for thieves to see. It is also great for finding restaurants in unfamiliar territories and has given me shorter routes than my usual ones on long trips. It all I had hoped for because my wife cannot read maps and this solves the problem.

Just updated this unit from the orginal Garmin street unit. This has a much brighter screen to read in the day light...has larger print. It is still very good with the directions. The unit is very easy to use and easier to store than the old unit before, which was larger.

We used it on a cross country trip. It's ok, but I'd not buy it again and would return it if I can. Bells and some whistles, but short on basic helps. I had a cheapo brand 3 yrs ago which I was much more impressed with.

Product is very easy to use. It does have issues when walking through New York City and trying to address satellites. IMO, the tall buildings make it send mixed signals and usually we get to our destination before the GPS does.

As far as driving with the Garmin Nuvi 265WT, it is a product worth it's weight in gold and opens up avenues of travel that we would not normally use.

When I put it on "faster route" it has a tendency to take me on "shorter" one lane roads that parallel major highways. Maybe it saves me 100 feet of driving, but it costs me an hour in terms of suggesting town roads with 35 mph speed limits instead of the 4 lane highway! Very frustrating, and I am forced to rely on it since I am in a new area and don't really know the roads yet.

I am very pleased with this GPS. I work in the GPS/GIS field and find this product to perform well for personal use. I use the hands free phone regularly. The speaker distorts somewhat at maximum volume, but I can hear clearly over road noise in my truck at highway speeds. The geocoding could be more accurate. My home address is off by 6 houses.

This is my first GPS unit and I so far have enjoyed traveling with out the worry of using maps or having to be bothered with asking for directions.
The Bluetooth feature makes using the cell phone a breeze.

This was a replacement for an older Garmin in a new car - most of the features are the same but it is much more compact. The traffic receiver/power cord has been redesigned to be much more usable. The touch screen can be touchy -pardon the pun. All in all, a good GPS in an improved form.

Very good product. Also great [...] from Abes of Maine. My complaint is the traffic is so so. I live in the Long island area and it goes in and out when I am supposed to be fully covered. And the voice is a little tinny. The speakers should be a little better. But thats it. Works great I will never be lost again!!!

I use this product CONSTANTLY for geocaching and rural driving and it has never let me down! Even in the most remote areas of CA or WI, where I do most of my adventuring, it acquires a satellite and always knows how to get me from A to B, even in rural areas where I need it most.

Additionally, the feature that helps me find things like restaurants, hotels, or gas stations is really great. Honestly its just like being on google.com. I can simply spell out the name of the place and it shows me search results matching my parameters; it even sorts them in distance priority- closest locations first. Great buy.

Got the 265WT a few weeks ago and have been quite impressed by it. The navigation is good, finds locations in a short time. I like that it has a lot of shopping, gas and food listings built in. I can just punch in Arco or McDonalds and it tells me the nearest location. Another nice function is the free traffic alerts and the built in hands free calling. I got the friction mount and that works great.

About the only two things I don't like about it is that it gives the arrival time instead of how long it will take to get somewhere and there is no way to change it. The second thing is that the hands free bluetooth is a bit hit and miss. The ads are not intrusive at all. The screen is not as big as the built in units but about as big as is available for a portable unit.

All in all it a great little GPS and I would recommend it.

Feature-wise this GPS is a good deal, with free traffic, bluetooth, TTS and a wide screen...but the traffic part is a joke. The traffic icon shows up only when there is traffic signal, and it covers freeway traffic only. I live in LA and the traffic is bad both on freeways and surface streets. This GPS keeps telling me to avoid freeways because of the traffic when the surface streets are even worse!
Besides, the speaker is loud but the sound quality was distorted and poor. I'm afraid that if I keep the volume too loud it will eventually die on me.
I guess you get what you paid for. Don't try to save money. Buy your next car with a built-in GPS.

Excellent features, especially for the price. Includes traffic for free over FM - only downside is that ads are displayed in the top of the screen when the traffic display is selected... still, not a bad tradeoff for a free service. Traffic display also shows speed limits, though not always accurate.

Battery life is a little of a let down, though not too bad compared to other models. Love the widescreen interface; remains easily visible at a distance. Included maps are good, but don't seem to be up to date (comparable to Google Maps or MapQuest, from what I've seen so far).

Spoken street names / directions is a lifesaver and definitely worth the extra cash.

I love it. It has great graphics. Only got a quick start setup with the GPS, so unsure how to use all it's applications eg (Blue tooth hands off calling). Looking forward to using it while biking.

When going on a trip to Harpswell Maine, I had set my Garmin up to go from my house forgeting that I needed to make a stop. My Garmin got me to where I wanted to go and recalculated a new route for me. On the way back I had to make a stop in Maine but did not know how to get there, Garmin found my way easily and redirected me from my new address to my home. I love it.

A very good unit. After talking to the Abes representative prior to ordering I was surprised when it came without a carrying case and AC power adapter since I have a Garmin 660 and was comparing the two on the phone.

We just put in a street or address and push GO. It will take you right there. Amazing detail on freeway entrances and exits. I love the way it shows parks and waterways.
