I have lived in my home for five and one half years. The unit does not have my street listed. It ends about three blocks away. Must be old and not up to date. The unit works good.I would recommend the unit but make sure it is up to date.
I have found faster ways to places I go often.
GREAT
Comments about GARMIN NUVI 780 GPS Navigation System:
The screen is not as easy to read in full sunlight as my Nuvi 650. I tried the FM transmitter across the entire FM band and could not find a static free setting. When the MP3 player is playing music and Miss Nuvi breaks in with verbal directions, her voice breaks up quite a bit. But still, the BlueTooth cell phone works OK and keeps me out of trouble with the cops (I've gotten 9 tickets in the past 2 years for phoning while driving: guess I should stick to drinking beer!)

This is a nice advancement over my previous "Thick Bodied" Garmin. Easy to put away and out of sight in the glove box. My previous unit lasted 8 hrs on battery, this one only 4. This means the power cord and lighter plug needs to be stuffed in the suitcase if you are taking it on travel other than in your own car. Other NUVI units have as little as 2 hours, which effectively eliminates their use while on foot, so this is better, but not as nice as 8 hours was.

Comments about GARMIN NUVI 780 GPS Navigation System:
Super easy to use with touch screen - MSN Direct is extremely helpful with traffic updates. Was almost empty of fuel in Boston and was able to eventually find a gas station, although there were several stations that were just not where the Nuvi said they would be. Small size - about the size of a smartphone, could fit in a back pocket. Used it on the street in midtown NYC to find a restaurant. Does not always display traffic information for certain roads, and I haven't figured out a way to avoid certain interstate spans and/or intersections where I know there will be traffic. The USB cord comes labelled so that you don't get it mixed up with other like cables (although I've already misplaced it). User input into map updates would be awesome, as well as real-time updates via satellite.

Comments about GARMIN NUVI 780 GPS Navigation System:
I researched and purchased the NUVii 370 for my father and was impressed by its operation and funtionality. The Nuvii 780 had a few other "tech geek" features that I was interested in so that was my purchase. The newly designed 780 has several functional treats like being able to create your own route and the MSN direct features that you unfortunately have to pay additional monthly charges for. My worst experiences are navigation related. Let me explain, The newer GPS has a very weak internal antenna as compared to the NUVII 370 which has a flip up external antenna. reception indoors is poor at best and trying to aquire a satallite while the car is moving is nearly impossible. You are better served after the unit has acquired a satallite before moving the vehicle. The GPS losses control in heavy traffic situations and is incapable making a logical decision in terms of routing you around the traffic jam. Many times did it send me off the highway with the promise of getting around the traffic only to end right back on the same road into the traffic jam. On the return trip, I purposely disregarded the GPS routing and decided to go around The New York George Washington Bridge by way of the Garden State Parkway after receiving a warning of a 1 hour delay ahead from the yellow traffic alert pop up. After driving about 10 miles on the parkway I expected it to completely route me around to city but it could not stop focusing on the Gorge Washington Bridge. Good thing I knew this route well. Battery life is also not as good as the Nuvii 370. I am very dissapointed in this purchase. I could have purchased 2 Nuvi 370's for what I paid for this unit. Garmin should be ashamed! It is nice to add new features that make it easier and logical for the consumer to use but the changes of removing the external antenna, reducing battery life, rerouting software that is non-functional makes this GPS less likeable the their earlier model Nuvii 350/370 series.

I am very pleased with this purchase. It was just exactly what Abes said it would be and more. So easy to set up and use. Just turn it on and go. I used it on a 800 mile trip to a place I knew nothing about and it got me literally to the front door.

This GPS also comes with MSN trial. The MSN is good if you are in an area that has it. I like it very much, but did not check all the features of MSN to see how it works. This is my third Garmin and they seem to get better. My computer crashed (no fault of Garmin) and I lost my map update. If you buy any Garmin GPS, besure you update your map within 30 days, usually for a free upgrade. I just love it.
