The maping included in the 540c only has major roads, it is worthless without buying additional map software. It will "not" do turn-by-turn directions, it really needs this. It appears to have been created for boats, and was adapted for use off-road. It is too large for top of dash, I made a bracket to put it above the rearview mirror, it fit real nice there. It comes with a cirarette lighter plug, but should be hard-wired. You will need to be able to work with metal and wiring to make this fit out of the way. I ordered mapcreate 7 (supposedly has topographic maps), hopefully the off-road trails can be seen and followed.
