Comments about DELORME Earthmate PN-60:
I chose this unit over Garmin because of the features this unit offered for the price and DeLorme's reputation for excellent mapping. The performance and speed of the GPS is excellent and the standard topo maps are very good. The available USGS topo, B&W and color aerial mapping and other data available through the NetLink site are excellent for the price. You'll just need a hard drive large enough to store the enormous files and the time to download them. A large XDHC card would enable the unit to contain a large amount of topo, B&W DOQQ and Color DOQQ imagery and still have plenty of room for geocache data, tracks and waypoints. The battery life seems to be quite good with the recommended lithium batteries. Even though it lacks the touchscreen that Garmin uses, the buttons provide for relatively easy one handed operation. On the downside, the unit is relatively bulky and the LCD screen could be a good bit larger and have higher resolution. A button to switch between imagery layers without having to go through sub menus would be nice.
