Comments about GARMIN Colorado 400t Navigator:

Just bought mine yesterday upgrading from an eTrex Legend H. I have been borrowing my sons for the past year. It still gets a signal in The Devils Windpipe, West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon and in my home. Side by side comparisons blow the 2 top competitors away. This is my 4th GPS. It is mechanical and can be lost. Always mark a waypiont before you leave your truck and get a compass bearing on at least 3 highs points. I teach wilderness survival for the AZG&F. I average 17 miles a week with elevation gains and losses totalling 8368 feet. I'm 50 years old and stay in shape. If you can afford it, the Colorado 400t is the GPS for outdoorsmen. Stay Safe. See you in the woods.

Comments about GARMIN Colorado 400t Navigator:

Used for offshore navigaiton with bluechart and collecting wasypoints on small boat - great easy to use

used for in car navigation in Europe and USA and generally worked great - but setup was awkward and I could not figure out how to verify a route before actually navigating. Probably easy for expert user but not intuitive. would be nice to have an option for voice directions.

really like the large screen

Comments about GARMIN Colorado 400t Navigator:

I use the Colorado both on a motorcycle (Triumph Tiger) and while hiking/ climbing. The GPS is great in both cases. Last time I went out climbing I dropped the GPS and it bounced and tumbled its way down several meters of rock and hillside. I was surprised to find that there was absolutely nothing wrong, only minor marks. I also purchased the Navigator NT SD card which is essential for on-road travel (which adds about $100- but worth it, esp. with the cheaper price at Abe's). The GPS is easy to use and has a quick learning curve to master the more advanced features. I have used GPS devices for many years, from the bulky and useless old Army PLGR to the more recent Garmins and this is by far the best I have used. I would go so far as to say it is fun. The carabiner strap was also better than I expected. The points of interest (POI) for both the TOPO and US/Canada map sets are great and full of interesting places. I highly recommend this GPS.

Comments about GARMIN Colorado 400t Navigator:

I like this GPS for the features and good battery life, and that it is user friendly. However, I just took a hike in the Adirondacks with it, and it had great difficulty in maintaning contact with the satellite in tree cover. As a result, my tracks there and back departed from one another many times. Very useful for gauging distances and position relative to landmarks. Overall, I like it, but the Satellite reception seems to be limited.

I have enjoyed using my colorado 400t for hiking and geocaching; it makes the adventure fun, you know where you are at all times. I also have bought the city navigatior maps and use the 400t as my gps for my motorcycle. Since this has been an extremely wet summer I am glad it is waterproof.

Comments about GARMIN Colorado 400t Navigator:

I had been using a driving GPS for geocaching until I purchased this unit. There is no comparison between the way the two devices navigate to a point.[@] Geocaches can even be selected based on closest to its current location. We have not yet played with the Wherigo function, but we plan on it as soon as we get a few more caches under our belt.If you plan on using this unit for geocaching, I can recommend none better.

Comments about GARMIN Colorado 400t Navigator:

I have just graduated from the eTrex to the Colorado 400T and have no regrets. I was originally in the market for the CXS but found a competetively priced Colorado so decided to go with it. I love the rock'n'roller wheel, it makes menu navigation of menus quick and easy. The same wheel is used for inputting text and I find that it is faster than the alpha-numerical matrix of the eTrex that I have been using. Since I have owned this unit I have upgraded to the turn-by-turn mapping software and Blue Water (coastal) mapping. I am looking forward to kayaking in Puget Sound with my 400T this fall. I would not hesitate to recommend this unit to others, in fact, I already have!

Comments about GARMIN Colorado 400t Navigator:

I intend to use this product for hunting. I use it to mark parking sites and hunt stand locations. Hunting season is just around the corner and I am presently testing the gps during hikes in well know areas. I love the large screen. It also is better at staying locked-on the satellites than my older Garmin. I talked my self into buying this one because it includes topo maps and has a larger screen for my older eyes. I do have to amp the brightness to max to get a good picture. I would also like to have more detailed topo maps for my hunting area. The roads are not as accurate as on my old garmin. Not sure why they show me 20-30feet off the road when I know I'm on the road. It is accurate for getting me back to specfic locations that I have marked which is what I need. So far I am pleased.

I use this mostly for hiking, at which, this thing is irreplaceable, I also use it on my mountain bike with the wireless heart monitor hooked up to it(sep purchase).
This unit has soooo many functions besides just plain old GPS..Altitude, air temp, compass...I could go on and on....
If you are looking for an easy to use, function packed portable GPS....Get this...
The battery life could be better, standard duracell last around 4 to 5 hours, pack some spare batteries and you're golden.
