Comments about Garmin GPSMAP 60Cx GPS Receiver:

I purchased this GPS with the hope that the technology had improved in the last 5 years. Boy has it. Reception is great with this device, even in dense cover. I use it primarily for hunting, to get me back to the truck/boat or back to the same tree again later. I've used it on canoe trips and power boat excursions. I just clip it onto my lifejacket with a 'biner and let it ride. It took a salt water bath a few weeks ago as we were pounded in a small boat on bigger water. When we got back to the truck, I just opened the cooler drain and washed it off with fresh water. No problems. I believe I made a good purchase.

Quick lock-on to satellites!
Has extensive features for a trek in the hills.
Lacks: setting a walk "stop time" and "max speed" parameter; option to delete a selectable few waypoints; and a detailed contour map(s) showing names of mountains.

Comments about Garmin GPSMAP 60Cx GPS Receiver:

There are free TopoMaps on the Internet.
Though you can use them on the MapSource program to load to the Garmin GPS, not all of their map features can be displayed on the GPS itself; eg., the TopoMap may have mountain peak names that are not visible on the GPS unit.
Also, Garmin uses Degree.Min.Sec but many Maps now have data as decimal degrees.

Comments about Garmin GPSMAP 60Cx GPS Receiver:

Not for boating in areas of tidal action. Garmin states, in their product description, the unit presents tidal data. They FORGET to mention an expensive Blue Chart addition is required, to obtain tidal data. Tidal data is not even mentioned in the Owner's Manual.
