The earlier version of this model allowed for defrosting a range of foods; unfortunately, this one is programmed only for meats, and I'm a vegetarian! defrosting other foods requires more forethought for setting manually each time.
Still, the defrost, reheat and sensor cook functions, in addition to both microwave and convection, provide a very good array of options for use.

Having purchase this model 3 times over several years is a great recommandation! It is energy saving with the convection so that you do not need to use your "normal" oven, it doesn't heat up your kitchen and simple enough that my husband has mastered how to heat up hot water for tea!!! I would give up my bed before giving up this convection microwave!!!!

Convenience of having a microwave and a convection oven in one package is outstanding, especially in a small kitchen. The controls are relatively easy to use, manual is also. I have never popped a satisfactory bag of popcorn following manufacturer's directions, no matter how closely I followed instructions. Sensor cooking and compu broil and compu bake consistently over-cooks vegetables, meats and cookies. Result, I select my own cooking times. Despite the afore mentoned, would I buy it again? YES.
BOTTOM LINE: YES, I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO A FRIEND AFTER MENTIONING THE SHORT COMINGS.

This unit was purchased for my wife. Unfortunately, she has problems with technical products. I can make ice cubes and a peanut butter sandwich, beyond that, chaos. I have found this unit a delight as my wife is consistantly asking me to help her determine how to use it. I have yet to ruin anything as the unit prvides enough queries that it becomes easy to set the controls. I simply ask my wife how she usually prepares the type of food in the unit or I check the excellent food quide that came with the unit.
So far cooking with the unit has been experimental but gratifying. I had one minor problem and that was the tri-arm tray support. I initially thought that it would only fit one way in the rotating arm but realized, eventually, that it had to be seated tightly against each vertical support. Nuff said its a great unit.
