Comments about Visual Sound V2RT66 Route 66 Pedal Overdrive & Compression:
I'm not a big fan of effects pedals, but I use this one a lot. It's got a pretty wide range of possible sounds, so it's worthwhile to tweak it regularly to find what you really like. I find I still have to bend down to do little adjustments every time I play out with it, but once I get it right, it's exactly what I want.
The overdrive gives me just the bite that I love, and the clean boost from the compression side is great for pushing my Fender tube amp into the regions where it sounds best.
I used to rely on my amp's drive channel when I wanted a good crunch, the Route 66 is now my first choice for getting the tone I want. I guess it's not what some people like, if they want a super-distorted sound, but if you like that bite right on the attack of each note, or whenever you play double stops or full chords, this pedal is perfect for that sound.

This pedal goes above and beyond the call of duty of your standard effects pedals. Great sounding effects, and the spectrum of possible tones is seemingly endless with basically three effects in one pedal. Built-in noise reduction gives clear sounding quality- the only caveat with this feature I would point out is that if you completely crank the internal trim pot that controls the noise reduction, the pedal will drastically cut your volume after a few seconds; something that can be a pain when playing solos with sustained notes. I use this pedal in conjunction with a Vox AC15, and the clean boost feature of the compression channel gives me great clean tones for the occasional jazz playing I do. Overall, I would highly recommend this pedal (and any Visual Sound product for that matter).

Don't waste your money on a TS-9 or 808. I have an original Ibeneze TS-9 and this think sounds identical. But then you hit the bass switch and the 66 jumps ahead. I opened both up and the Route 66 and TS-9 are identical. My only problem with the TS-9 is it can sound thin and the Routte 66 fixes this problem. The only pedal I might buy over this is the Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde which is made by the same company as the Routte 66. Visual Sound is top notch. FYI the compresion is great for a tube amp if you can't turn it up just use the comprssion to push those tubes a viola!
