The Canon BG-E2 Vertical Grip/Battery Holder adds a vertical shutter release, and is compatible with up to two BP-511, 511A, 512, 514 Lithium-ion battery packs, or six AA batteries with included battery holder BGM-E2. The BG-E2 provides additional shutter release, main dial, AE lock/FE lock and AF point selection controls for easier vertical shooting, as well as a 1/4-20 Size tripod mount thread. It is also compatible with the Canon EOS 30D/40D/50D SLR.

Got this to make it easier to shoot youth sports in a vertical position. Much easier to switch from horizontal to vertical shooting now and no more arm fatigue from twisting around to hit the shutter button.

Own a 50d? You should buy one!

This grip really balances the camera out, especially when using it with longer lenses. Having two batteries means you can shoot all day long without having to change them. Plus setting your camera down on the grip sure beats possibly damaging the bottom of your camera.

I use this on my 40D for wedding photography and I've found it to add a greater feeling of comfort and balance with heavier lenses. It's especially apparent when using my 70-200L IS but still feels great with smaller lenses like the 24-105L, which is my workhorse lens.
