This new lens does what many pros thought couldn't be done - replace the previous L-series 28-70 f/2.8 lens with something even better. Extended coverage to an ultra-wide angle 24mm makes it ideal for digital as well as film shooters, and the optics are even better than before with two Aspherical elements and a totally new UD glass element. It's now sealed and gasketed against dust and moisture, and a new processing unit makes the AF faster than ever.

This is a great professional lens. Having the variable zoom range with such a wide aperture (f/2.8) is fantastic. We have young boys and are always trying to catch good images and this lens really enables us to need a flash less. Though, with wiggling kids and less than great light, you will still need a flash. (in a pinch the pop-up built-in is plenty).

The lens is very large and heavy though. Its impressive, but it is the price for having so much glass inside to enable more light capture.

This lens stays on the camera now and we look forward to many many years of service!

This is a great lens for event photography, where lighting is always inconsistent, need wider aperture, quick focusing and sometime wider angle than 70-200mm can offer. I am extremely pleased with its performace in low light and a variety of circumstances.

I recently upgraded to the Canon 5d Mark II from the original 5d. I had been using the 28-135 image stabilized Canon zoom but was not happy with the results on the new camera. The reviews I read of the L lens were universally positive and i have not been disappointed with the performance. If you are going to invest in a top notch camera it makes sense to do the same with the lenses.

This is one of the greatest of all Canon L-series lenses. The performance and image quality produced by this lens is simply stunning. It's heavy but it performs as I anticipated it should. I consider 3 Canon lenses to be the backbone for my photography and this is one of them. Great color and tone reproduction with the quickness as an f/2.8 should be. This lens is staying attached to one of my camera bodies and it will seldom be removed. It’s worth every cent I paid for it and then some.

I use this lens as my all purpose lens and when I shoot portraits. This my first lens in the "L" series and I love it! It takes excellent pictures in low light situations, and you don't always need to use a flash.

This is by the far the best lens I have ever owned. I previously owned Canon's 24-105mm f4L and it doesn't compare to the 24-70. Low light performance and focus are superb. I definitely recommend this lens.
