With the large maximum aperture, excellent background blur is possible even with a fast shutter speed. The aspherical lens element makes the lens compact and corrects spherical aberrations. The image is sharp even at the edges. Lead-free glass is used.

I do a lot of low light (night) photos of sports (tractor pulling, Dirt track racing, etc). I have a 70-300mm and a straight 85mm lenses, this 28mm lens completes my set and helps out when I am close to the subjects.

LOve it for those tight situations! Has A little distortion for portrait work but you'll get that with any wide angle lens! Very sharp

Overall this product is all I wanted. The wide aperture lets you take photos in low light. The lens is small - and I usually take this on my daily shoots. The wide angle gives it more room for group photos.

Excellent value for the price.

Wonderful lens! Images are crystal clear and the lens is super light-weight. Occasionally, I have had difficulties with the auto-focus in low-light conditions. Overall, I would highly recommend this lens.

This lens amazes me every time I use it at night whether with a tripod or my speedlite. Beautiful 14 point stars from light sources in a photo. I've used it as a walk around lens on a crop frame camera as well during the day and would recommend a warming filter. It tends to want to overexpose daytime/high light situations when used in aperture value mode. Slight chromatic aberration in full sun, mostly red.

For the XSi, this lens is a great "normal" walk around. It is strong in lower light situations where 3.5 is not going to do it. With flash indoor work is a lot easier now.

Very well constructed lens. I've taken to using it as a walkabout lens in conjunction with my 50mm over just carrying the kit lens. Overall, I wish the focus was just a hair sharper, but then again I may be biased as I tend to compare sharpness of lenses to my 50mm which is absolutely phenomenal; even when compared to other 50 mm lenses. It's certainly sharper than the kit lens that came with my EOS Rebel crop sensor camera. The wide aperture makes it possible to even do crisp, low ISO hand held night shots.
