Comments about Canon 300mm F2.8 L Image Stabilization USM Lens:
Debated between the 300mm and 400mm telephoto. Bought the 300mm on weight and price. The 300mm lens is awesome. Pictures are crisp and clear. The optics are superb and it doesn't get any better when compared to similar lenses. The lens is hard to manage without a monopod but doable. Changing lenses also requires care do to the sheer size and weight, yet it is alot more manageable compared to the 400mm lens. Using it for sports and outdoor wildlife. Very pleased with my purchase.

I purchased this lens to capture photos of high school and college sport activities (mainly band and girl's softball). I use the following two lens 98% of the time, the canon 70-200mm and this canon 300mm IS L series lens. Both are built with exceptional quality. The 70-200mm canon lens is great for making zoom adjustments with sport photos. However, there were times I wanted to get closer shots. I researched both the canon 300mm and 400mm lens. I chose the 300mm lens based on weight and portability. I couldn't be happier. There is rarely a time I need to get in closer, and for the few times I need to get in closer, I purchased the 1.4 canon extender which receives rave reviews - I completely concur with all reviews on this extender - I haven't seen a negative review. In fact, the 300mm lens is more than sufficient, as I find there are many times I'm required to move further away so that I do not crop out critical elements. I recommend using a monopod with this lens, and yes, I get many comments about how impressive the lens appears while not having to deal with a lens over 10 pounds. I purchased a Tenba large camera bag which can hold the 300mm lens, the 70-200mm lens, camera body, three other smaller lens including the Tonika 10-17mm fish eye lens and a laptop. Based on price, portability, quality and what I need for high school and college sports, this is your lens.At the time I purchased this lens, Abe's had the best price. [...]
