Comments about Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM Standard Lens:

It took me a while to decide to buy this lens due to all of the negative reviews I read about focusing issues. Finally, I noticed that all the negative reviews were written in the middle of 2009 or before and nothing after. Whatever focusing problems Canon had before appeared to have been corrected.I bought this lens a few weeks ago and have been so pleased with the results. The color and clarity are unlike no other lens I've tried. I shot a photo from about 8 feet away and, when I zoomed in, could not BELIEVE the detail. Also, I much prefer the realistic dimensions of this lens over the perspective distortion of the 35mm 1.4.The 50mm 1.2 is also the perfect lens for those who want to create videos in addition to photography with the Canon 5D Mark II. See my first video here:[@]If you buy this lens, get to know it. You can't just point it at a family at 1.2 aperture from 4 feet away and expect to get everyone in focus. You have to live within its capabilities and adjust accordingly.[...]

Comments about Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM Standard Lens:

Shooting at f1.2 really opens some creative doors in terms of perspective, bokeh, and unusual affects.

You do have to take care to ensure your AF focuses on your mark (I've used it w/ the old school 5D).

Also, note that on a sunny day f1.2 might be overexposed, even at ISO 50.

I've had the lens for a couple of weeks, and am very happy with the results shooting at night (streets of San Francisco), indoor portraits, and landscapes. The results really are distinctive.

While this lens is a little pricey it offers extremely sharp pictures with excellent depth of field. I bought it to take landscape pictures; my wife uses it for close up portrait. It works well for both.

Comments about Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM Standard Lens:

Combined with a late model Canon body (high pixels & ISO with little degradation), pictures are captured crisply in dimly lit night club or evening street scenes. It's size/weight rules out the candid photography of, say, having a Leica slung under your sport coat. And, it is relatively slow to focus. Yet, of the 10 Canon lenses I own, if I could only take one on vacation, this is it.
