Comments about Canon 50mm F1.8 II Lens:

This lens was recommended to me by a professional photographer. I like the blurry background effect, and this was the perfect lens with the 1.8f. The only thing I wish it had was to zoom in or out option. If you want it closer you need to move in, or if you want to be further you must move out. Other than that I highly recommend it!

Awesome First Lens Upgrade

Pros:
Lightweight, Quick Focus, Sharp Focus
Best Uses:
General Use, Portraits
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Canon 50mm F1.8 II Lens:

This was my first lens upgrade besides the kit lens for my canon rebel T1i. This takes amazing portraits with crisp focus. I have used it several times and definitely think it's a must have for all photographers. The only downside is that there's no zoom (duhh.. it's a prime lens) and that since it's a 50mm lens, you have to be pretty far away to capture a wide angle crop. Test out with your kit lens first to make sure you're ok with always having a 50mm lens attached.

50mm F1.8 II Lens by Canon
By StephenVerified Purchaser from Tucson, AZ on 10/1/2009
Pros:
Lightweight, Sharp Focus
Cons:
Cheap Construction, Slow Focus, Weak Casing
Best Uses:
General Use, Portrait photography
Describe Yourself:
Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Canon 50mm F1.8 II Lens:

This lens is a bit fragile, and cheaply constructed, which is why the price is so low. However, it takes excellent photos, with good sharpness throughout. The shots I took of my two boys, 2 and 4, playing and swinging in the backyard were stunning! Razor sharp focus on their faces, and the background totally blurry. Action shots on the swings were perfect, crisply frozen in time, once I picked a spot to focus on, and then waited for them to swing into it. Excellent lens for the money if you're willing, like me, to baby it and not smack it around much.

Great indoor sports lens

Pros:
Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight, Rugged
Cons:
Slow Focus
Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Canon 50mm F1.8 II Lens:

This lens is a good alternative to the 70-200 L for indoor sports, particulary basketball and it works well indoors at f/2.8. It doesn't focus as fast as the 70-200 and can take some practice to lock on to a subject to set up for an action shot, but once you get the hang of this lens it will produce consistent quality shots.

Comments about Canon 50mm F1.8 II Lens:

You won't find anything close to the price of this lens based on value and results. On an XSI capturing portraits, I just love this lens. 80% of the time I need to go to Photo Shop to smooth sharp features. Some of my client's requested I not show some "undesired" features based on the capability of this lens (such as a zit - sorry to be so specific.) There is absolutely no reason not to have this lens in your kit if you own a canon camera - based both on price and capability. At the time of purchase, Abe's pricing couldn't be beat. Highly recommend both the lens and Abe's.

Comments about Canon 50mm F1.8 II Lens:

I have used it only a few times, it seemed a bit lightly constructed, but it is a great buy for a low light lens and casual user. It takes clear pictures and many indoor low light shots without flash for special effects. I am delighted with it's capabilities at a great price. It came in a small box with a bubble wrap pouch bag which I keep it in to protect it while not in use as the lens has a lite plastic housing. Highly reccommend this lens. Very pleased with it.

Comments about Canon 50mm F1.8 II Lens:

I wanted the extra sharpness of a prime without a huge price tag and the 50mm 1.8 was the perfect solution. I was a little hesitant because it was VERY cheap, but it has performed stellar. Focus drive can be a little noisy and certainly would not want to drop it, but it has been great as a walkaround and portrait lens. I have also gotten some decent landscapes with it as well. Lightweight, sharp, fast, and cheap; what more can you ask for, really?

Comments about Canon 50mm F1.8 II Lens:

This is a great lens for the price! Around $100 or so for a F1.8 lens is amazing. Great for portrait and landscape photos, in most any type of lighting conditions. The low F-stop means a very fast shutter and autofocus time, and obviously low light capabilities as well. The only con is the plastic base, not really meant for rugged use. But of course, when your handling a $100 lens and a $1400 camera body, you are obviously going to take care in attaching and detaching the lens from the body...Overall I reccomend this lens!

This is a very good lens. SHARP!!! the f/1.8 really save you on taking photo in the low-light situation. mine is made in Malysia, but Canon is Canon. light weight. i would recommend not the use mannual focus (unless it's neccessary), b/c it's made of plastic. anyway, u get wut u pay for. but still, the quality is very good in this price. just GO FOR IT!

I think that this lens is the perfect buy for everyone. I use it around the house taking pictures of my daughter, outside, the possibilities are endless. The lens takes crisp pictures and for the price you can't get a better F stop. It is better and faster then my friends 50mm USM lens which I thought was quite odd. I love it anyone should add this to there bag of tricks.

great little thing for playing around, but if shooting for a gig, this lens would not be my favorite choice. Autofocus is a bit iffy at times, but in a studio setting where you have lots of time to set up a shot it would be good. very sharp when it's on.

Comments about Canon 50mm F1.8 II Lens:

Serious photographers would obviously more likely go for the much more expensive 1.4 version of this lens, but for people just getting into DSLR photography, this lens is a no-brainer. To begin with, it's a lot more crisp than the kit zoom lens that comes most canon cameras. Secondly, it's super fast- I get great shots indoors with no flash. The f 1.8 aperture also allows you to get great blurred backgrounds when desired. For newbies, this lens will help put your photos clearly out of the "point and shoot" class. I have read some negative comments on the durability of the lens, but I have had no problems, and really, for [$]its a great bargain. It's also great to go out and shoot with a prime lens (as opposed to the zoom that came with your rebel) - it makes you work a bit for your shots and the results are often very rewarding. Remember- Henri Cartier-Bresson only used a 50 mm lens!

Comments about Canon 50mm F1.8 II Lens:

I bought it as a second lens for my Canon XSi (the first is the 18-55mm kit lens). For less than [$], I think it's a good lens to get to dSLRs. That's what I do too.The small f is good for portraits, specially for night shots and/or when you want that blurry background. I'm sure an f/1.4 or f/1.2 would be even better BUT for someone to start and that still doesn't really know what to do, IT'S A MUST-HAVE!!!
