First lense was never able to take a picture. Error stated it lost communication with camera. After exchange, the replacement lense worked fine. Does not appear to be constructed as well as any of my other Cannon lense. Feel of lense is "plastic" and "cheap". Replacement lense did take wonderful pictures, but I have doubts as to the durability of this lense.

I love this lens. My daughter competes in many gymnastic meets throughout the year and I did not have a lens that went past 75mm. I was not getting the shot that I wanted because she was too far away. The first meet I used this new lens at, first of all people were wowed by the fact that I looked like a pro, and second - I GOT THE SHOTS I WANTED !!!!! It looks like I was standing right next to her snapping the shots.

I bought this lens to take action shots at high school sporting events. It is an awesome Canon product. I have found that Canon makes good stuff. I would recommend this lens to any beginner as it is easy to use and interchange if need be.

Comparing IS and/or USM telephoto lenses from canon, it may not be best to buy, but surely satisfy on price. I found it good for normal outdoor shooting, and really useful for 100-250 mm. The USM feature is more important than IS for starter, unless you can buy an expensive one. I used it in Rebel Xti.
