Works great inside, no flash, dark places. Goes whers others will not go and gets excellent results. The eye cannot not see into dark domes, this lens can take a full color picture of what I cannot see.

I am a very recent convert to DSLR so not qualified to comment much about it. I like the fact that it has a longer zoom than my kit 18 - 55 which often felt a tad short when I was composing pictures. It also feels much more solidly built. Got it at a great deal from Abe's..

I purchased this lens to replace the stock lens that came with my Nikon D60 (the 18-55mm). Since I already had a 70-300mm lens, I wanted something that would give me a wide viewing angle, but could still zoom a bit when necessary. As it turns out this lens fits my needs exactly as I had hoped it would. I am very happy with the quality of images it produces.

For the price I paid, I am very happy with this lens. You get what you pay for :)

I shot a couple hundred shots on a recent trip to Chicago, the lens performed as expected; fast accurate focus, crisp images, good color. The lens has enough of a range that I was able to use it solo for the trip --- Although next time I will add a high speed prime to my walk about case for the after dark action.

Use the lens as a daily-shooter and have been pleased with the results so far. Took pictures at the lake last weekend with the kids on the Waverunner and got some very sharp pics while the kids were running around in excess of 40mph. The VR works well and have hand-held at 1/30 sec and still get sharp photographs. Would love to have the extra range of the 18-200 but for the price, the 18-105 is hard to beat.

This is the lens that came with my D90 Kit and decided to purchase another one for my Dad. It's very reliable, comfortable to carry and very decent for most usage scenarios.

A few comments: sharpness is not very great at max zoom, also this lens does not operate very well in low light conditions, takes some time to focus ... but again, you get what you pay and this is excellent value for the price.

Despite Ken Rockwell and some others less than stellar reviews of this lens, I like it. I have the 18-55 and the 55-200 and some primes but I was looking for a "street" all purpose lens and this fits the bill. VR works like a charm, color rendition, sharpness, etc., all adequate. Weight and size are big deal to me, it is still heavy but 5 ozs lighter than the 18-200 and a lot cheaper. It's a lot of lens for the money. If the focal length works for you and you aren't a pro, you'll probably like this lens.[...]

This is a great lens. The autofocus motor of my 18-55mm that came with D40 went bad and I was looking to upgrade to a better lens. Abes had a good deal on this 18-105mm. This lens is pretty good for its construction, the package includes all that comes with the original packing, comes with 5 yr warranty. The autofocus is pretty fast and the images are very sharp. It takes good pictures inside the house with regular lightning and I dont need an external flash.

Comments about NIKON 18-105MM AF-S DX F/3.5-5.6G ED VR:

This lens is great for indoors compared to your standard 18-55mm lens. You don't have to switch back and forth between a good zoom, like a 70-300mm, and your standard lens because this lens is a great all purpose lens. It is great for outdoor shots too. I took great action shots of kids off of a diving board and it didn't disappoint. A little heavy, but well worth it!

Material is very decent and durable. There is also a good bag as well as nice hood.

Since I have to carry this lens with my Nikon D300 and the battery grip, I selected a slightly shorter telephoto than the heavier 18-200mm. (I do wilderness hiking...)

The VR is awesome. I have gotten rock solid shots at 1/6 second, hand held.

The lens hood could fit on more solid. It can turn as it doesn't lock in place, although there is a white dot as to where to put it on.

I find it quite versatile. I am often in the 60mm focal length range.

Comments about NIKON 18-105MM AF-S DX F/3.5-5.6G ED VR:

I have a Nikon D60 and had picked up a 55-200 VR lens to go along with the kit 18-55 VR. As things worked out, I rarely ended up switching lens because it was a hassle for the type of scenery shooting I do. I wanted something that would give me a much wider range and let me skip bringing a second lens. For most situations, this 18-105 VR lens does just that. It covers most of the shots I need in one easy little package.

I took this lens on a family trip to Maine and used it as my primary lens. It worked well as a portrait lens for casual shots. I could zoom out and shoot the whole room of people or zoom in on a close conversation. I also used it for a few outdoor shots that did not require my 70-300mm lens. Over al, nice lens

I didn't add any cons because I'm not a professional so I probably won't be able to spot out the smallest details about the lens that can be considered a bad trait. I did notice however that the area of focus on the ring that brings forth the sharpest focus is pretty small. Meaning I can hit the sharpest focus and with the slightest touch made to the focus ring, the sharpness will blur. Other than that (which isn't a big deal) the lens works great!

I gave this as a gift to a 13 year old for doing well in school; the first day he took 500 shots with it and would not put it down, we were almost not able to get him bed that night he was so excited (he is normally on the computer gaming).
He has it mounted on a Nikon D60 and is getting amazing shots time after time. This Nikon lens Auto-Focuses instantly or almost it seems even close-ups are seemingly effortless for him as there is an easy focal ring at his finger tips.
The best thing is the wide range of this zoom he does not need to keep changing lenses. It is perfect as a walk around everyday lens it lets him compose on the fly, wide for groups, or Zoom for candid shots. Not to mention the VR (Vibration Reduction) feature. WOW what an improvement. Super crisp shots time after time.

I now need a second one for the wife's D80; it seems she too is tired of constantly shifting lenses or making the tough choice of which lens to bring on trips. Great lens get it ya can't go wrong at this price at all.

Upgraded from an 18-55 mm lens to this one. Couldn't be happier with the increased flexibility without having to change lenses. Recently used it at a wedding and could go from group shots to close-ups of the bride & groom in an instant without having to fumble with changing lenses. (I have a 70-300 also). Pictures are sharp/clear. Auto is fast; manual also works well for special effects.
My only con is that it is (obviously)a bit heavier than the smaller (18-55) lens.

This lens is really fun to use. I went to my cousins third birthday party, after 2 hours I had taken 170 pictures. I blame the lens, I found myself snapping away.

Comments about NIKON 18-105MM AF-S DX F/3.5-5.6G ED VR:

I recently got a Nikon D80 and I wanted a lens that matched the coverage of the lens on my N70 film camera. So I selected the 18-105 VR. The VR definitely helps with stability at slow shutter speeds. I would have loved to purchase the 18-200 lens but that was beyond my budget.

If you are looking at a decent starter/do-all lens, and want to use it on D60/D40, this is the right lens. If you are looking to use with other cameras such as D80/D90/D200, etc, I am sure you will find “pro” level lenses suite your needs better. I got my D60 and decided against the kit 18-55 over this one. This 18-105 will stay on the camera most of the time as the walk around lens. It is a plastic mount and mostly sturdy plastic; seem solidly made. Does not have the focus distance indicator window – I did not find that limiting. Focuses down to 1.5ft – good macro.

If you shop around you can get one of these for sub $300. I got mine here at Abe’s. Of course, if you have the extra money(another $400), you could buy the metal mount, super zoom 18-200VR. But if not, this is a great lens. Buy this and then later, buy 70-300VR.

This came as the kit lens on my D90. I was surprised to hear some negative comments on this lens. I find it to be a good walking around lens with a convenient focal range. I choose this lens often. And for the price it is a good performer.

Comments about NIKON 18-105MM AF-S DX F/3.5-5.6G ED VR:

This is a great lens, provided you're not taking pictures exclusively of test patterns. Yes, there is some pincussion/barrel distortion at the wide/max zoom ends of this lens. That is not uncommon in <$1K consumer lenses. For taking pictures of regular subjects, like people, most events, etc., this lens performs great. Just as good as the 18-55mm kit lens but twice the zoom. For the price, it's a great lens, with VR to boot.

Comments about NIKON 18-105MM AF-S DX F/3.5-5.6G ED VR:

An extremely useful zoom range. I have not had to use my 55-200 in the three months I have owned the lens. A little heavy compared to the basic Nikon digital SLR 18-55 kit lens, but definitely worth the extra weight and size. You get used to it very quickly. It did require an investment in 67mm filters. Images are as sharp as you would expect from a zoom; VR seems to work effectively.

Great lens! I used it to replace the 18-55 kit lens on my D40-X. It is my main lens and is working just as I hoped. I am very pleased so far. Thank You AOM for the great sale just as I was looking for this type lens!
