Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Wide Angle Zoom Lens:

While I can't say that I've put the 24-70mm Nikkkor through great physical stress, between landscapes, events, and closeups, after having it about a month, I've taken a few thousand photos with it. The results are consistently sharp and have good micro-contrast.

On my D700, the focusing is both precise and accurate without any adjustment. Unfortunately, my D200 is usually noticeably off, though it also has issues with other lenses, so I assume that the problem is with the D200, not with this lens.

While this is a heavy lens, that comes with the territory; one shouldn't be buying a pro-level 2.8 zoom if one isn't ready to deal with that fact. The only thing that caused me any frustration was the ease with which the lens would change in extension - thus, zoom - while I was trying to rotate a polarizer within the lens hood. Given that this very minor issue is all that I could find to complain about, it goes without saying that this would hardly stop me from recommending the lens to others.

This is an expensive lens but definitely worth your money if you own FX camera. The lens is well built, very fast, and produce edge-to-edge sharpness pictures. It turns out to be the lens that attached to my D700 most of the time. One another happy Nikon fans.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Wide Angle Zoom Lens:

I use this lens for weddings, portraits, and events on my Nikon D3 DSLR. It is tack sharp at all apertures and focal lengths, lightning fast and accurate focus, great color and contrast, waterproof, solid as a rock, and heavy.

I would recommend this to anyone using an FX camera, but I don't think the zoom range is right for DX. It won't go wide enough on DX for reception/party shots, and it's not really long enough outdoors. In my opinion, the 17-55mm f/2.8 DX lens is better for DX cameras than this lens, and the image quality is superb with both.

In fact, the image quality of this lens seems equal to my Nikon primes.

The only negative is the weight. After shooting all day with this lens, it takes a week for your arm muscles to stop hurting. It is hard for me to 'one-hand' shots of dancing couples with this lens due to the weight.

But this lens is exactly what you need if you are a pro or aspiring to become one. It will never be the limiting factor in delivering brilliant pro quality results.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Wide Angle Zoom Lens:

I bought this lens to replace my Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 DX - since I am working on making the transition from DX to FX and starting with the lenses. Everything about the Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 was amazing and I wanted a lens as close to this as possible that would be a non-dx lens and the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 is just that and more! I have been using this lens on a daily basis for over one month and do not have a single complaint - it can cover a broad range of uses with no problems, great color, sharp, fast, tough, quiet - what more could you want?Side note: I only buy my camera gear from two places, Abe's of Maine is one of them[...] - thanks Abe's!!-Jim

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Wide Angle Zoom Lens:

This lens was used for portrait and landscape photography. The focus was quick, sharp, and easily manually adjustable. Only con I can think about is the weight, which is heavier than the D90 I use. But once you get used to the weight it's stable and durable. The quality of the photographs more than compensates for the weight you'd have to carry around.

Comments about Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Wide Angle Zoom Lens:

I'm using this lens as a general purpose zoom on a D200 and will eventually use it on a full format Nkon. The effective range on the DX format is about 36mm - 105mm which means it goes from medium-wide to about portrait. The 2.8 apperature stays constant but there is a 1 - 2 stop slowdown in speed as you approach 70mm. Still, this is a lot faster than the 3.5 -5.6 18mm-200mm Nikkor that I've been using.
Now for the reason this is such a spectacular lens: The sharpness is almost beyond belief. It's so good that I'm going to keep my D200 - even at 10.2 megapixils. I regularly print 13X19 with 2:1 cropped blowups and the shots still looks tack snarp. I could never accomplish this with the 18-200 or any other lens I have. The construction and operation is pure Nikon, which speaks for itself.

Sold 17-55 to buy this. Was alittle worried.Alot of money and 17-55 is a great lens. First couple of shots. All that went away!!! Right off, sharpness and color I noticed.Yes, you could buy 4 primes to replace it.The question is why? You give up so little. And you only have to carry one lens!!!!
I already have 70-200 VR. What a pair!!!

I label this an all purpose lense and it truly is that and then some. It's fast, sharp and spot on in terms of picture quality. It may be somewhat expensive but you really get what you pay for with this lense. The only issue I have and I mean the only issue is that it is somewhat heavy.
