Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
Great for shooting portraits in low light. Depth of field gives images a distinct feel. Definitely adds mood to the most boring of portraits.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
A quality, f/1.8, prime lens that is especially useful in low-light situations. Considering the weight of the camera body, this light-weight lens does not significantly add to one's burden. Furthermore, its compact design and light weight facilitate rapid acquisition and/or panning of subjects that suddenly catch one's eye.
Finally, I would disagree with those reviewers who are critical of the composite (v. metal) construction of this lens. I, too, appreciate the weight and feel of a 1956 Buick Roadmaster - which has little to do with the bottom line: performance. And since I do not plan to bowl with this lens, I am confident that its durability is not an issue.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
Wonderful low-light and night performance
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
Great for low light situations, portraits, landscapes, any situation where you would utilize the classic 50mm lens on a 35mm film SLR. The DX format makes this the closest to that "old school lens." Razor sharp focus. Great value for the money. Nikon quality optics. The bad? Cheap plastic feel compared to those great quality optics you're used to from 35mm SLR cameras. Don't let that stop you from buying this lens though! Nikon put the quality in where it counts! The lens has great Nikon optics. The pictures look awesome!
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
Gets better results than the kit lens on my D3000 in low light. The bokeh is a bit different than what I'm used to, but normal for a 'normal' lens. With a D90 or D5000 (or similar) I would expect even better results, since they have better processors for low light to begin with.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
Really love this lens, had to do a photo of a building and it came out beautifully. I love using this for close up to with flowers and everything.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
It's not perfect, does a good job in low light. In my opinion, concerns about the bad bokeh are exaggerated and rarely if ever become a problem.
It's the lens I put on my camera when I'm doing anything social: it's light, quick, and small.
Great value compared to other comparable lenses.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
I also have Cannon 450D. This lense is very comparable with Cannon's favorate 50mm F/1.8.
Nikkor 35mm F/1.8 will be a great choice to start enjoy your new dslr.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
Great low light lens.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
As I am sure others stated, this is a great all around prime lens. I really enjoyed using it for the butterfly exhibit at the San Diego Wild Animal Park during my vacation. The lens is small and is quick to focus. The colors that you get when you use it in a low light/no flash shot is amazing.

Great for indoor, low light situations. Good prime lens to have on a second body.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
I was looking for an auto focusing inexpensive fast lens that would work on a Nikon DX type body, and this lens met my criteria perfectly. There are more expensive lenses out there that have a little more speed and quality, but this lens is top notch for the price.
At this point I have only had it for 3 weeks but it does exactly what it is supposed to. The aperture provides plenty of speed in low light conditions at f/1.8 and it also allows for pretty good depth of field.
Reversely, stopped down a couple times, and this lens produces sharp photos with a crisp focusing.
Overall I am very happy with this purchase. As I stated earlier, there are more expensive lenses out there that might be better (as you get what you pay for), but this lens is superior for it's price range and in my opinion operates more like a lens that would be selling for double the actual selling price.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
My kit lens never comes on my camera now.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
Focus is accurate and very sharp at f2.8, a little less contrast at f1.8, but still nice results. Bokeh not ideal, but not distracting either. Small and light lens. Indoor shooting will still require higher ISO setting (>200) in most cases. Focus mechanism makes noises that are louder than usual.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
I use this lens mostly for indoor portrait shots and it performs beautifully. The reason why I gave this review the said headline is mainly due to the fact that the 50mm f/1.8 AF lens is almost $100 dollars cheaper, and sturdier, than this one. However, they are both wonderful lenses and I highly recommend this one.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
This is one of the lens every enthusiast should have in his bag. Night photograhy is like cake walk with this lens, on DX camera it is close to 50mm so a regular lens, but images are so sharp and control on shots is amazing.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
This lens produces sharp pictures and the 53 mm equivalent is a nice, very versatile focal length ; it's nice to have if you don't want to lug around tons of lenses. The autofocus is very quick and the possibility to override it manually is very convenient. For the price, the quality is extremely satisfying. I only wish the bokeh were more accentuated ; this is not an ideal lens for portraits. I still really like it though.

Good for potrait and low light.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
This is the best lense for night shots without a flash that I have used so far with my Nikon D60 and D90 for both indoor and outdoor. It is great too for flash photography. The depth of field is amazing with crispy focus on the subject. Higly recommended to own for those with DX SLR cameras.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
this light, compact, very sharp lens proves the value of prime lenses for digital SLRS- the contrast is superb as well.

Although I am still experimenting with this lens, I have gotten some nice photos of my husband's band in low lighting 'club' conditions without using a flash.

Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
i've been using it daily for the past few weeks and i found that it's great for all types of photographs except for sports action (but this lens is not really meant to do that). great in low light! it's only 2/3 stops slower than a f/1.4 lens and that can be easily compensated with the ISO setting. it's very sharp and reproduces color beautifully.it's a very well spent [$].
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
Not a bad lens, and having 35mm focal length on a DX body is certainly easier to deal with than a 50mm, which sometimes makes it hard to get far enough from the subject. That said, I prefer my 50mm/f1.8 lens over this 35mm lens. Can't put a finger on why, but the 50mm seems a tad brighter and faster focusing.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
I bought this lens as a prime for my Nikon D200. This lens is very sharp, quick and quiet. The compact size of the lens is helpful with portraits. I was surprised as to the clarity of the focused area. The only con is the inlcuded lens bag. It was small and cheap. I went and bought a padded bag so now there are no worries.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
I have this lens on my Nikon D90 and primarily use my camera indoors in available light, where most shots are taken in low to very dim lighting. The kit lens, 18-105/f3.5-5.6 were decent, allowing me to take photos at an ISO of 3200 with shutters of 1/20-1/30 wide open. With the 35/1.8, I am now able to achieve photos of the same situations at ISOs of 800 and under using wide open apertures, with shutters of 1/40 and faster. This is a dramatic jump, and the quality of my images are much better with less noise. I am also a great fan of the nice, smooth bokeh that the lens provides, although the bokeh may also appear as very harsh rings in some rare circumstances, depending on the backgrounds of the frames being captures. But, at a cost of only [$], this is quite a bargain. The lens can focus incredibly fast, and unlike other reviewers, I am fortunate enough to have the lens be tack-sharp in the center at wide-open apertures.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
My new favorite for low light candid shots, and portraits.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
I bought this so that I have a fast lens with my D40 and D80. The diameter is bigger than expected (because of the SWM), making me missed my AF Nikkor 50mm f1.8. Other than this there is no complain.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
I new I wanted a fast prime lens when I purchased my Nikon D90 body. This lens lets you take great indoor soft without a flash and allows for shallow depth of field to make your subject pop.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
It's a Nikon Lens - it's Great for my little D40.

Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
This lens has been fantastic! I currently have an 18-105mm kit lens with my D90 and wanted a prime lens with low f-stop for low-light scenarios. This lens has worked great. I must admit that I'm still learning the art of good photography but have been VERY impressed with the quality photo's I'm getting already for such a small investment. Because it's a prime lens, I wouldn't recommend it for general use--the 6x zoom is great. But I think this will definitely be close by!Also, kudo's to Abe's for their excellent service. [...]

Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
Got this lens few weeks back and have been playing around.
I was considering to buy 50mm 1.4 or 1.8 but I was not happy with the angle of view (tele) that i would translate to for DX format, but was relieved when Nikon intriduced this lens. This lense is 100% must for D40/60 owners as it can autofocus and at the same time gives very good angle of view.
The lens focuses quickly, gives very good low light pictures and is sharp when not widest open.
Color saturation is better than average.
The bokeh is not the best but is good considering the other advantages it provided alon with cost.
Bottom line D40/60 owners, go for it without any thought. D60+ owners, go for it only if you want wider lense otherwise 50mm 1.8 is far more economical.
Good depth of field

Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
The new 35mm f1.8 DX prime lens is sharper compare to the older 35mm f2.0 "D" lens, at wide open. At above f8 the older lens perform better. Since I got this lens for low light situation, I am impress with its capability. Very cheap lens for what it can do. Very sharp lens (at least the copy I got).

Great prime lens for not much money. Nice and sharp even wide open. Bit of a problem with CA but not a deal-breaker.

Light weight, small, very sharp with high contrast. Wonderful for low light photography.
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
This prime lens seems to be built well and is quick to focus. It's sharpness is amazing and the price is very reasonable. For any DX owners out there, this is the prime lens to get (unless you are willing to spend twice the price on one of the F/1.4 lenses).
Great job Nikon!

Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm F/1.8G Lens:
Very nice lens for the price. Suffers from some chromatic aberration, but hardly noticeably unless you zoom in 2X.
The focus is very fast and quiet.
Missing the distance meter, but that's what you get for the price tag.
Gave it 4 stars because it's not perfect, but still very good.
