Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF Lens:

I was pretty happy with my 50mm/1.8 but finally decided to see whether the 1.4 really makes that much difference. It does! The DOF is softer, the edges are sharper, low light photography better. It's an amazing little lens. If you like portrait or close-ups this is the one for you. I did hesitate at first because the 1.4 is quite a bit more expensive than the 1.8 but now I know why. It is so worth it and if you are looking for your first 50mm I would go straight to the 1.4. Easily my favorite lens now.

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF Lens:

Just a great low light lens. Don't let the age of this lens design deter you. It works great on my D90, I'm glad I got it and didn't wait to save more for the 'G'. The money it saves me over the 'G' will go to my next lens purchase!

Used it to shoot a wedding in a very dark gothic church. Worked well, but the narrow depth of field means that you need to be absolutely certain that the focus is correct.

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF Lens:

Instead of being saddled with the excess weight of a zoom lens you have a lens that can take great low light photography as well as being perfect for portraits. We just go our first DSLR (Nikon D90) and are enjoying getting use to this camera with this lens.

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF Lens:

This is a very light, fast focusing lens with good contrast, colors, good CA control and decent bokeh. If you're deciding between this and the new 50mm 1.4G I would suggest buying this unless you need the SWM for quiet focusing. On DX form factors this is an excellent portrait lens, and on a FX this is a great all purpose lens. At this price how can you complain, it's the best bang for the buck and word the extra over the 50mm 1.8.

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF Lens:

i like to shoot in low-light settings. And I never leave the house without this lens. I have a number of other lenses, which I don't always take with me, but this one is always a must. In addition to all the qualities you'd expect (large aperture, sharp focus, etc.) I also find that the intentional blur I get when I create shallow depth of field images is really smooth and beautiful. That's not the case with my other lenses.

I just use it for general photography. With it opened up I can get some really shallow depth of focus, and nicely blurred backgrounds. I really like this lens.
