Comments about Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm F/1.4G Autofocus Lens:

This lens feels great! If you have enough money and want to take some pics through a large aperture, take this one, no question. However, if your budget is not that much, f1.8d is enough. You can't tell a big difference of the pic's quality between these 2 lens. There is one drawback of the 1.4G, sometimes, it focus inaccurately and slowly.

We recently added a new addition to our family and I picked up this lens to help take indoor, low light pictures without using a flash. It does the job VERY well. In addition, I am always out and about taking shots of nature and it works well there too.

This is an amazing lens for portraits. The focus can be a bit slow, but not slow enough that it becomes an issue.
Smooth bokeh, great field of depth, very well made. Definitely a favorite lens.

Comments about Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm F/1.4G Autofocus Lens:

This is definitely a specific lens. I would not recommend it as a general all-around type lens, but if you are wanting to take portrait photography, night shots, or pictures of wildlife, then this is a great lens. I primarily use it for portrait and wildlife, but the low f-stop makes it great for night shots.

Comments about Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm F/1.4G Autofocus Lens:

After reading mixed reviews, I was a little hesitant when I ordered this lens. The day after I received my order I shot a wedding. On my sub-frame Nikon D40, the focal length made for a great portrait lens. With the low light, I shot almost exclusively at f/1.4. Shooting at such a small depth of field, the focus accuracy was exceptional. I was also impressed with the smooth brokeh (background blur) the lens produced. Contrast and color accuracy were also above average. The only thing that keeps this from being a perfect lens is the rather sluggish focus speed. However, for most applications it is fast enough that this won't be an issue. Just realize it's not instantaneous like many other AF-S lens.
