Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens:

First new lens in over a decade. Bought to try out for portraits and close shots, based on the recommendations here and online. Takes some getting used to not having a zoom, but the quality of the images is great. It's small, of course, and seems pretty sturdy and well built. It's a much better quality than the 18-55 Nikon lens that came as part of my D50 kit 4 years ago. I'll definietly be using it more and more.

I love the lens! It does exactly what I was hoping for working with the depth of field. It does not have the auto focus when used with the D5000 that I have but I was aware before I bought it that it would not. It is better to manual focus anyway.

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens:

I use this lens to take photos of my 9 month old baby in the house. It is great for that purpose but I may have chosen a 35mm instead of a 50mm if I was to do it again since often I cant get far enough away from her for a full body shot. I love the fact that I dont have to use the flash with the lens and the photos turn out great!

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens:

After converting my 1980s 50mm lens to try and work on my D90 I was excited to start experimenting with Depth of Field and Portrait shots. As an amateur photographer I was disappointed I would not have access to the light sensor (as electronics in the lens didn't exist at the time) on the converted lens to help with the exposure on my shots.

I decided on this lens based on the value. Low price and high performance. Although the build quality (mainly weight) is substantially different between the two lens I think the performance and warranty more than make up for the feather light nature of the lens.

Great clean shots that make even an amateur feel like they know what they're doing.

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens:

I purchased this lens to use as a portrait lens and for low light situations. On my Nikon D90 body it equals to a 75mm 1.8 prime lens. The lens is made in China, and the lens mount is plastic, however it seems solid and well constructed. The focusing is quick and the apertures are snappy. The photos I have taken with this lens are superb. Super sharp with a nice bokeh. This lens out performs some of my other expensive Nikkor lenses.

I bought this for my wife who loves close up shots. She loves it. She still uses the 55-200mm for outside shots but quickly changes to the 50mm for up close and indoor shots. This lens is great for low light conditions. Still learning all of the in and outs but it only gets better as we learn more ways to utilize its capabilities! Would recommend for photo enthusiasts.

Best Uses:

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens:

This lens is so good that it is a real surprise that Nikon didn't bring it out at twice the price.
I do considerable indoor photography in churches, and museums that don't have the best of lighting so I set aside my two Nikon kit lenses for the D80 (great camera I got from Abe's btw) and use 'the little guy' and it always comes through.

If you are considering getting this lens stop thinking and pull the trigger--you will be glad you did.

Best Uses:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens:

I use this lens to do portraits, landscapes and low light/no flash photos. This lens gives me very good results on 2.8 or above. 1.8 is my emergency only weapon. Since it is very small and light weight, I could as well carry it in my pockets if needed.

Must say that it is very sharp and very fast. since it is prime, be prepared to do the walking around to compose your shots :-). If you are coming from the zoom lenses, you may take some time to get used to it. This will not disappoint you if you are careful enough to ensure the subject is in focus.

Any one who has a Nikon SLR camera should buy one of these. extremely useful if you are into creative lighting and photography.

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens:

This prime lens is a good addition to the 18-55mm zoom kit lens for Nikon D60, especially for the price - around $100. It is small enough to fit in any cubby hole and be ready for use in low-light situations. The only drawback thus far is that the autofocus feature does not work on my Nikon D60. I knew this prior to purchase. Manual focus brings one back to the days before autofocus.

I bought my D80 with this lens and a zoom lens. Of the two lenses I only use this one. I have yet to find a situation where it has not come in handy. the focus is quick and sharp. The range of f-stops from 1.8-22 is great for shooting in the darkest or brightest lit areas. my only complaint is that i sometimes find myself wishing it wasn't zoomed in so much, but at the same time i have found myself in situations where the closeness has been great. overall great lens

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens:

I got this lens to use on my Nikon D40, and even though I have to manually focus it on that camera, it is amazing. The crispness of the photos is wonderful, and because of the larger aperture it can be used in lower light situations that the D40 kit lens.

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens:

It arrived quickly, and my pictures have been crisp. I love this lens, my only negative is that it does not autofocus with my Nikon D40, but that is no fault of the lens, just a difference in Nikon technology. It takes beautiful shots for such an inexpensive lens.

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens:

For the price, this is a much needed tool for your Nikon. Very fast shutter speed and clear focusing. I normally use the 18-200mm Nikon lens but this was a great addition for indoor or night scenes.

Comments about Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens:

I originally was looking for another 1.4 to keep in my bag [...] the Abe's associate behind the counter suggested the 1.8 I figured for the price why not? It was a great recommendation, this lens matches my 1.4 almost to the exact level for less than half the price.

best lense for casual shots of young children in "a" mode without flash and low light.
so many memoriable pictures will exist with this one.

doesn't want to spend $200 more for 1.4D with not much improvement for my casual eyes
