Comments about Nikon 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lense with Image Stabilization:

Pros:
-very nice upgrade for the price
-image quality is sharp
-very lightweight
-good for budget

Cons:
-slow Auto focus at times
-build quality cheap, but decent for the price
-VR makes annoying electronic buzzing sound when focusing
-(not really a con) minimum focusing distance can become frustrating at times

Bottom line: If you want a telescopic lens but don't want to burn a whole in your wallet. This would be a great upgrade. If you have money though, I would suggest the 18-200mm simply because that would give you great coverage over any range.

This is truely the best lens under [$]. If you take care of your equipment, the plastic design should not matter and decreases the weight. As a professional, all I care about is if it is sharp. f 2.8 would be nice but then you have to spend the [$]

Comments about Nikon 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lense with Image Stabilization:

This is a nice lense and can produce very sharp images even at 200mm. Auto focus is pretty good on my D90, pretty fast. Now on my old D60 it was slower. It's light weight, compact and very portable.

The mount and build are plastic, that makes for a light weight lense, but be careful when attaching the lense. Build quality is pretty good, it's tight with no defects.

It's a good lense until you can afford to get a mid range or pro quality lense.

As a novice photographer on a budget, this lens was a great addition for a great price. I have used this outdoors on several occasions getting shots of wildlife and such, and the shots were clean, clear and crisp. It did take me a little bit to get acclamated as to where the focus ring was, but after that it was smooth sailing with this great lens.

Comments about Nikon 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lense with Image Stabilization:

I purchased this lens as a supplement to my 300mm zoom. I like it's compact size and have limited experience so far. The pics and performance are what I expected however the VR was disappointing. Several shots were blurry due to camera instability. I thought the VR feature would eliminate this as it was a common problem with my 300mm.

Perfect compliment to the 18-55mm kit lens. Vibration reduction produces sharper images when zoomed in. The AF is fast and silent. I am just a hobbyist and can't spend more than a few hundred on a lens. This is the best value available to compliment the 18-55mm kit lens.

Comments about Nikon 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lense with Image Stabilization:

I bought this lens as a supplement to the 18-55 that came with the kit. It's a low cost alternative until I can afford the 18-200mm VR lens from Nikon. I've already found that switching lenses is kind of a pain, especially if you don't like lugging a lot of gear all the time. I like to use this especially for outdoor shots where I can really take advantage of the zoom. Since I'm at a (very) beginner level, the VR lenses really help me out and capture great action shots of my son. I use it on my D60 and have also started taking more nature shots as we go on hikes; the color and clarity of this combination are astounding (at least to me).
