I bought this lens for my Pentax K10D to photograph our hummingbirds at the feeder. I got some great shots with the new lens right out of the box. It was easy to use. I got very sharp and color accurate images. At another occasion I used the lens during a fast model jet-airplane demonstration and was able to get close-up images from the fast flying planes with sharp and accurate color rendition. I love this lens and would recommend it to anyone as part of a complete assortment of lenses for travel, landscape and wild life photography.

I couldn't ask for a better zoom lens. It takes great pictures. Its a little on the heavy side, but thats ok.

I use the K-x, and I've found this lens to work out quite well. It focuses a little slowly in low light as you'd expect, but overall is not bad. The quality of the images is very good though, and quite reproducible throughout the range of the zoom. All-in-all, I'm very pleased.

This lens is amazing! Ive got some great shots that, had i not had this lens, I never would have gotten! Take some time to get familiar with the lens before you go out shooting. You dont want to miss an amazing shot because you are trying to figure out how to get it to maximum zoom (learned from experience)
Comments about Pentax P-DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED Lens:
Many 300mm zooms in this category go soft at the long end at wide apertures. Not this lens. My sample and initial tests were impressive. The ED glass delivers a high standard that makes it comparable to the better Nikon and Canon telephoto zooms. But Pentax engineers based material choices on metal and plastic to reduce the weight. Not aimed at heavy-duty pro use. Autofocus was spot on and generally the response time was quick. In spite of being a slower speed (aperture) lens, the in-camera stabilization of models like the KX make it possible to hand hold it in relatively low light. Regarding performance, it's an excellent lens.

Just started using lens and am very happy with its ease of use and picture quality. Will get a lot more use when I begin using it for basketball season pics.
Comments about Pentax P-DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED Lens:
I got this because the original camera lens of 28-90 was good indoors and in the back yard but didn't do well outdoors in nature. I got this lens and found out how much of a difference it is from 90 to 300!! WOW!! First 3 days out and I was able to bring in GREAT pictures of Mountain Goats, Black Bear, and some Ground Squirals!! It was a great weekend! Only problem that I have found is on the occation that I need more wide angle, 28 would be so much better... If I carry both lenses, no problem, if only using the 90-300, wide angle or indoor is a bit iffy, but that should be expected! Great purchase. Works well on both my Pentax Digital istD and Pentax ZX-1 35mm film camera!

This is an excellent "everyday" lens that fills a long-noted gap in Pentax's DA lens lineup between their "kit" (18-55mm) zoom lens and a long (300mm) zoom telephoto. Mechanically, it's very well-made with good optics for the money..all of which make it an excellent value.
