Comments about Pentax FA 50mm F1.4 Lens:

This lens is great, worth every penny. The 50mm focal length translates to 75mm on modern small frame Pentax cameras. This is great for portraits and because of the great resolution even some macro photography at f/8. It focuses accurately on my K2000 and the manual focus is nice to use. The lens gives you a focus distance measurement that I have found to be accurate (verified with measuring tape). Small and light and on my K2000 it looks great. No lens hood.

The big surprise was image quality. This lens has the most contrast of all my lenses. It doesn't have the most edge detail (still very high) but when it comes to colors and contrast this is the lens to have.

At f/1.4 it is a little soft but it can take pictures under lighting conditions that I can barely see, amazing. At f/2.0 – 2.8 it becomes sharper and pictures look great. From f/3.5 – f/8 image quality is unmatched by anything else I have used. The bokeh backgrounds are VERY nice and smooth from f/2.8 or smaller.

The only problem is not really a problem with the lens but with prime lenses in general. Sometimes you can't fit your subject at the fix focal length or are too far away to take a good picture of your subject. In that regard it is not the best walk around lens but perfect when you know your subject and location beforehand, like a portrait shoot. Still, when I want my best quality pictures I always try to use this lens.

Comments about Pentax FA 50mm F1.4 Lens:

Best lens for the money, bar none. Great for low-light and non-flash picture taking situations. Perfect for pet photos where they might get disturbed by the flash. Get to experiment and use all the camera's features and functions with a large aperture at a lower cost.

Comments about Pentax FA 50mm F1.4 Lens:

After reading many reviews about the cost to performance ratio of this lens, I felt it was almost criminal NOT to buy it. I have nothing but praise for its quality. Currently the lens is smarter than I am, but I'm learning quickly. My first series of pics was disappointing, but this had everything to do with my technique and inexperience with my new-ish k20. A month and a half later, my images from "Picture Day" for the soccer team are crisp bits of beauty - thanks to this lens.

Comments about Pentax FA 50mm F1.4 Lens:

I started shooting a lot about a year ago. I'm as green as they come but caught the bug. My friend has this lens and told me about it. Saw his photos and loved them. It's a great buy and I found uses for it the minute it arrived. Mostly indoor shots for now, but it's made my life a lot easier with low lighting issues. It's heavier than I expected but short so it hasn't given me an issues with balance when I'm holding the camera.
