This high ratio zoom lens incorporates Sigmas original OS (Optical Stabilizer) function and exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras. It is perfectly suitable for low light conditions, indoors, at dusk and telephoto range. SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass and aspherical glass provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 45cm (17.7) throughout the entire zoom range and has a maximum magnification of 1:3.9. The inner focusing system is suitable for using a petal-type lens hood supplied and also circular polarizing filters.

I had the Sigma 18-200 without the OS feature before this one. The few extra dollars is well worth it. It's a great walkabout lens if using a cropped-sensor camera and has even performed well as an impromptu macro lens on one occasion. The lens is a tad bit stiff on the zoom, but this seems to alleviate lens creep, so far. Canon's version of a similar lens has terrible creep.

I use it for family occasions ,holidays and as a hobby. I used to use two lenses 18-55 and 55-200 but with that i missed many possible good picture with the time in changing lenses. with 18-200 you won't miss many. I feel the sigma lense is almost as good as the canon 18-200, except the weight sigma18-200 is heavy.I like the os function,I think which is a must for an 18-200 unless you use a tripod all the time. I would recemond it over canon lens just b,coz of price.

This lens replaced the kit lens. I've seen so many mixed comments about this lens that I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Apparently the people that were giving it bad ratings were putting the lens on some type of machine to examine it. Based upon my eyes alone, the lens is excellent. Yes there is a little lens creep when the lens is pointing down and yes in darkly lit situations, the lens does a little hunting. If you are using a flash, just make sure you have the flash's AF assist beam activated and you'll be ok. Buy it!

We travel a lot. Space and weight are at a premium.
We need a do all lens, and it fits the bill.

I realize that to a professional, the lens probably needs less distortion, but I don't miss any shots fumbling for another lens. For my vacations and shots of the grand kids, its great.

I use this lens in many occasions such as in museum (no flash allowed), at night, on moving bus to picture pedestrians, outdoor. In general, this lens can focus quickly and precisely. The color is vivid; the zoom is quick and performs perfect.
Also, this lens comes with a hood. This will save you some 20 bucks.
The only drawback so far is when using it as Macro to picture flower or small objects, it is not as good as the Canon 18-55mm lens coming with my Canon EOS XSI.
