I have used it once so far at an Xmas party for the kids. I got great close up shots and didn't have to change to another lens for different shot.
Comments about SIGMA AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS Zoom Lens for Nikon Cameras:
I was apprehensive about buying a Sigma lens after reading the hit and miss reviews. I couldn't justify twice the money for the Nikkor 18-200 VR, however. I ordered this lens and I don't regret it for a minute! It is fast to focus, even in dim light. The HSM focusing motor is not loud at all, as I have read in some reviws. Quiet and quick! The focus is dead-on as well. It consistently produces tack-sharp images. What impresses me most about this lens is the color reproduction. It is sharper than the 18-55 Nikkor kit lens that I use with my D-80. Before buying this lens, I compared it with the Nikkor as stated. I was able to try both lenses (just in the showroom) of a camera store. The Nikkor VR (OS in Sigma terms) seemed to "latch on" to the subject a little better. Sometimes it's hard to tell if the OS is actually working, but I produce consistently sharp images at slow shutter speeds, so I suppose it is working just fine. I can shoot 1/15th at 200mm and get sharp images nearly all the time. I experience a bit of lens creep, but that can be easily stopped by engaging the lens lock tab. Some people talk about the focus and zoom rings being too close together. This is not a problem for me, but giving it to someone else to take a picture you have to be careful. I have a solution for this as well; Put the lens hood on backwards, which covers up the focusing ring. This will only allow someone to use the zoom and will prevent the AF motor from getting jacked up. My main complaint (if you even want to call it that) is that the zoom is backwards from the Nikkor lenses. I still haven't gotten used to this, but I suspect it will come in time. All in all, I HIGHLY recommend this lens. Pictures are tack sharp with great colors, focus is fast and quiet, and the OS seems to to it's job. I will be adding some pro-level Sigma lenses to my inventory in the future without hesitation. The quality vs. price is great!

This is an awesome lens for the price (which has gone up since I purchased). It is the perfect choice for someone looking to upgrade from a kit lens, but who isn't ready to invest in the pricey Nikon 18-200 VRII. Yes, it has some compromises. No, I can't complain for the price. I am HIGHLY SATISFIED!

I've wanted a single lens that performed midrange performance and price for travel. I've used the lens for the first time last weekend and found the lens to exceed my expectations. The only two complaints I have is that it is a little massive on my D40x and the rings turn in the opposite direction that my three other Nikkor lens.

I had borrowed a friends Nikon 18-200mm and I loved the versatility of it, but I hated the price tag of almost $700. I tried this locally and purchased from Abe's and I'm thrilled. The focusing speed and accuracy is fairly comparable to the Nikon. The image quality is very acceptable. Only at a 1:1 will you occasionally notice the Nikon's advantage. OS does a good job. Inside shots at the long end (150+) is tough sometimes, but typically my indoor shots don't need to be that zoomed in. A great deal is being offered from Abes!
