This lens is amazing i took it with me to go and shoot the Giants Training camp and thanks to the big aperture shooting through a chain-link fence was no problem. and the tripod collar came in handy on my monopod as this thing does get a little heavy!!

Comments about SIGMA 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG APO Macro HSM-77MM Lens for SONY:
I could not afford the sony so I went with the Sigma. The focus is super fast which is why I went with the sigma over the tamron. It is not as tack sharp as the sony for for $1000 less I don't expect it to be.

Comments about SIGMA 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG APO Macro HSM-77MM Lens for SONY:
This lens is outstanding. So far it has exceeded my expectations. It's tack sharp and colors and contrast are excellent. I use a Zeiss SAL2470Z as well and find that both lenses perform equally at 70mm. At this price, it can't be beat!

Comments about SIGMA 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG APO Macro HSM-77MM Lens for SONY:
When I bought this lens I wasn't sure wether or not it would work well with my Konica-minolta 7D. Well it did!
The focus is very fast even though the K-M 7D generaly focus quite slow (I can just imagine how fast it is on later Sony models, especially the the A900 full frame that is suppossed to be one of the faster players on the market).
Sharpness is great, contrast and brightness is very good. I haven't used it for more than 2 weeks so I can't really say anything about the durabillity but the feel is that is very rugged and can take a beating (within the realms of propper use).
It is of course a bit heavy but then again this is to be expected. I carry it in a Tamrac Velocity 8 camera bag together with the SIGMA 18-50 f/2.8, SIMA 30 f/1.4, Minolta program flash and a SIGMA 1.4X converter, some bits and bobs and the weight is very managable. It was the last addition to my alround kit and I feel all set. The lens will be my allround lens except for covering my wide angel needs.
I'm very happy with the buy and I'm positively surprised by how well it works with my old house!
cheers,
A

I've been looking for a replacement for a long time, and I waited until Sigma and Tamron got their acts together with the 70-200 2.8's that were just released. I tested the Sony, Sigma and Tamron on my A700, and I was blown away by the Sigma. The Tammy is a great lens, but cheaply made and the autofocus noise and slowness isnt my cup of tea. The sony is 1000 bucks more and is just slightly sharper than the Sigma. Sigma wins. Hands down, no competition. This lens is going to stay in my bag for years to come!

Comments about SIGMA 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG APO Macro HSM-77MM Lens for SONY:
Optically slightly inferior to Sony/Minolta 70-200/2,8 SSM, but more than justified by its price. HSM usually works pretty snappy. So should be useful for shooting fast moving objects in low light, which is the main purpose I bought it for.

Comments about SIGMA 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG APO Macro HSM-77MM Lens for SONY:
While its somewhat heavy and does not fit in my current bag (comes with case), it is quiet and fast in the auto focus and takes really sharp pictures. I like the constant f/2.8 throughout the entire zoom. I think its a great lens and with the 4 year warranty in the USA, it gives me security for good service. Currently using it on the Sony Alpha 100 and the A700.
