I use this lens on my Canon XSi. I rented the Canon 10-20mm before buying this Sigma, and I can't tell the difference between them in quality of photos. Sharp focus. The main negative is that the lens is pretty heavy.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Lens For Canon:

I have to admit that the Sigma 10-20 wasn't my first choice on the UWA list for my Canon crop. I wanted the Tokina 11-16mm because of its sharpness and f2.8. The only problem was that it was hard to find ANYWHERE, and prices are inflated so much.I then wanted the Sigma 8-16mm, but the lack of being able to put filters on threw me off. Still, 8mm would be fun to play with.So the Siggy 10-20 was my 3rd choice, and after taking some first test shots, I was kind of disappointed. Why? Because I was comparing it to the other [prime] lenses I have and realized that I was expecting too much from this UWA. I've been spoiled by the "prime bug" and should have known that I can't compare apples to oranges. Sure it isn't as sharp and fast as the Tokina, but at optimum conditions & 100% crops, I was still pretty amazed. Then I put on a Marumi Circular Polarizer on it and found out what all the fuss with filters was about. The range of this Sigma is one of its greater strengths. If you slowly move through its range, you'll notice a dramatic difference in composition. The Siggy is more of a specialized lens. I don't take it out as often as I had planned to, and even then I sometimes struggle in low light with its f4 max aperture. I'm now getting increasingly interested in long exposures and am planning to get ND filters and all that jazz. If the Tokina 11-16 was widely available and retailers didn't bump up the price of that thing [...], then I would have probably got the Tok., but I'm happy with the Sigma and am not looking back or having buyer's remorse.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Lens For Canon:

I've been wanting to splurge on an Ultra-wide angle lens for some time... I have read all the reviews on UWA's, and finally pulled the trigger on the Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6. The Tokina 11-16mm, Canon 10-22mm, and Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 are the three most often compared. The reviews are frequently torn between these three... and while most state the Tokina has the best optical quality, it is minimally better than the Sigma or Canon... and the Tokina lacks in range. The extra 1mm on the wide angle, and 4 mm on the other side were very important to me. Factor in that the Sigma is about [$] cheaper than both of the others, and it was a no-brainer. I was initially concerned that the zoom rotates opposite the rest of my Canon lenses. After using it, it's really nothing to worry about...I've adjusted quickly. My only gripe with the lens is that the mark to line-up the lens with the body is WHITE (as an EF-S equivalent lens should be), except that the white mark on the lens aligns with the RED (EF) mark on my 40d's body. I feel this is worth a half-star, but didn't have the option of selecting 4.5 stars so gave it 5...After using it for a couple weeks, very happy with the image quality, build, and tremendous value of this lens!

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Lens For Canon:

I take lots of event pictures and have quite a few lenses but with group shots running either the Canon 40D or 7D was looking for something that would give me a bit more wide angle due to the multiplier effect from a non full frame CMOS. The Sigma 10-20 filled the gap.

As with my 18-50 which sold me on Sigma, I noted the strong construction as well as the petal lens hood (included). I really like the squeeze lens cover Sigma uses as well. Very easy to get on and off and less likely to accidentally touch the lens with your fingers.

The output was what I hoped for, very sharp focus, nice wide angle with little detectable peripheral distortion. The lens coating produces excellent color balance.

I still have to run the lens through a few more paces but what I have seen so far makes this lens a strong contender for a top favorite.

As to flash, I did notice some shadow with the pop up flash which is why I recommend the Gary Fong puffer and or his dome diffuser. If you don't have a diffuser just remove the lens hood. Problem solved.

This lens is a terrific performer for the money.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Lens For Canon:

I bought this lens for my daughter for Christmas but only after having one myself for about a year. It is my favorite lens and bought one for her because she wanted it and also because I didn't want to keep sharing. I originally bought it for landscapes - sunrise is my specialty. She started taking portraits with interesting perspectives and one ribbons. I then experimented and use it for many other things.
The sharpness is the best feature. It is so wide that I often have to remember not to get my own feet in the shot. It gives me a creative option I did not have before. We both love this lens.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Lens For Canon:

I recently purchased a Sigma 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6 since I plan to be travelling and want to first test out this lens. I have limited budget so I am contemplating between the Sigma and the Tokina (which is hard to get). Canon 10-22mm is another option but that means I have to cough up an extra $300 (I'd rather save the money for different lens). I don't regret my decision to go with the Sigma. What I love about the lens is that it gives an ultra wide-angle view, produces warm color, has a durable and proffesional built. It comes standard with a hood. Zooming in and out feels solid and smooth. This is my third week owning this and I have taken great landscape photos of Chicago twilight with this and am looking forward to testing this out during my trip. I am attaching a sample photo shot with this lens on my XS body. I originally was worried if 4.5-5.6 does not provide big enough aperture, but for the landscape photo purpose, you don't need fast lens, as you will be using tripod anyway. Sigma is releasing a similar lens with fixed f/4 in July for additional $200. To me, it is not worth the upgrade. Good luck with your decision. This lens won't fail you.

Victim of Poor Sigma Quality Control

Describe Yourself:

Cons:
Blurry Focus, Tough To Attach

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Lens For Canon:

Sigma is known for their poor quality control, and alas I got a bum copy of this lens. Asymmetric focusing problems (common with this lens) and a very unpleasant crunching sound when trying to attach and detach the lens, as if the threads were slightly off. I ended up exchanging the lens for a Tamron telephoto...yes, completely different lens, I know, but I'd been looking for a telephoto as well as the super wide-angle.

However, I may try this lens again at some point to see if I get a good copy since the field of view was outstanding for landscapes.

This was the first lens I bought to start upgrading from my Canon XS kit lens 18-55 and 70-300. I suppose when you compare this wide angle EX sigma lens to the kit lenes it kind of make you see how much better quality and build of the lens. I am new to photography and I can even see the picture quality difference with this. I did tons seaching for wide angle lenses and picked this easily over the Canon and def. over the Tamron. Highly recommended
