It is also equipped with an integral Petal-type hood to block out extraneous light.

This lens is a college student's dream come true. It completely opens the world of wide angle photography without the ridiculously expensive price tag attached to lenses of such high quality. It gives you complete freedom to explore and be creative, and everything that comes out of the camera absolutely astounds me. Bottom line- It's fast, it's lightweight, and it's durable. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Lens For Nikon:

As a Realtor with a 20+ year photography hobby, including darkroom, My photos were the envy of the office with the standard kit lens. Add the Sigma 10-20 and now at a whole new level. Have to conciously think of the perspective but the expanded scope of the interiors is amazing. Stiching for visual tours can be a challenge, but one technique I found outside was to step back across street an crop to create a panoramic from one frame.

It was a difficult decision between the Tokina 12-24; Tamron 10-24, but ruled out the Nikon due to price and only if not satisfied with the less expensive alternatives. Took a chance on the Sigma,as both the Tokina and Tamron are available locally at the 2 pro level camera stores. Took test shots with them and on close evaluation, really was not satisfied with them. Only concern was the higher apature on the Sigma, but have not found that to be an issue as try to shoot around f8 since all ultra-wides are not at their best wide open anyway and tend to hit the sweet spot between f8 and f16 at most focal lengths, and particurally at the widest.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Lens For Nikon:

Getting back into photography since 20+ years ago due to the DSLR capabilities of today and to use the existing knowledge of photography I once gained. Now I'm wanting to invest in a variety of types of equipment (lenses) rather than exhausting a ton of money in one limiting lens. Could not be happier w/ my purchase! After spending hours > months researching before pulling the trigger on my purchase of the Sigma 10-20, I decided I could achieve a nice lens without physically comparing to another Nikon or the Tokina. I've come to realization that there will be no "perfect" lens. I had previously purchased a Sigma 70-300 and had great results from a marginal product. My next purchase will more than likely be a Sigma 70-200 w/ 2.8 as an upgrade. I'm not a professional; therefore, I'm not seeking the ultimate lens. Once I purchase a 70-200 I'll probably upgrade from my D60 camera and still have 3 nice Sigma lenses for the price of 1 Nikon. By no means am I "knocking" Nikon, I just don't have the comparisons. I've yet to have a faulty Sigma product. Thanks to Abe's of Maine for offering a great product, [...], & price!

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Lens For Nikon:

I saw a lot of great reviews about this lens and they have been well warranted. I couldn't quite afford the larger aperture model, so I settled on this one. This one is probably better suited for outdoors and you might suffer a bit of depth of field in lower light, but I definitely notice the sharpness of the images-- it puts some of my other lens to shame. I am very happy with it!

nice wide angle for the D40, auto focus. A heavy lens, but well worth the money. I bought a Tiffen UV filter as a lens protector, and the filter was actually touching the glass when screwed down all the way. I called Tiffen tech support and it's a known issue. They quickly shipped me a small spacer that fixed the problem (for free). All is good now. I'm glad I bought this lens.

I have used this lens to photograph home and building interiors. It's great in small places. I also want to try some really wide angle art photos. I think there could be some artistic benefit in having 1/2 the planet in one photo (it's really wide angle). You might even get your tripod in the photo if your not careful.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Lens For Nikon:

To get the most out of this lens you really have to work for you shot, which to some may be good or bad. To me it is fun. Some of the shots that can be produced with this lens are amazing. It is all about the angle and how close you are to the object. So make your angles extreme otherwise you won't get the benefit of this lens by just doing regular landscape shots pointing straight at your subject a few feet away.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Lens For Nikon:

I have owned three copies of this lens. Returned the first one because it suffered from the infamous "focus at infinity issues". The second copy was absolutely great --- sharp, with good colors. I loved it and am still kicking myself for selling it. I only did so because someone offered me a Nikon 12-24 at a price I could not refuse. However, I soon found myself missing the 10-12mm range badly. The Nikon was sold and I got my third copy of the Sigma 10-20. It happens to be de-centered, the entire left side of the frame is notably out of focus. This is going back to Abe's tomorrow, now that the price of the Nikon 10-24 has started to fall I may end up buying that instead.

To summarize: if you happen to get a good copy this lens is an incredible bargain for the price, particularly given what you would pay for it at Abe's. If you get a bad copy and don't want to spring for something more expensive I would suggest that you don't exchange it but send it back to Sigma for adjustment, they do a good job.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Lens For Nikon:

I have contemplated buying a wide angle lens for a while and did lots of research. Sigma 10-20mmm came always among the best choices. While I am still "internalizing" it, learning to feel it while shooting, I am very happy with the picture quality and performance inlcuding "experimental funky distorted indoor pictures").

I wish it would allow more light, but not being a professional, I may have unrealistic expectations.

I must compliment Abe for personal touch: soon after I placed my order, a real person called me to make sure I have the Nikon camera. Very thoughtful. He also helped me chose the UV filter (which I could not find on the web site and thus - decided to purchase separately).

This is a very well made lens. It is a superwide lens landscape photographers and others needing a wide angle lens will enjoy this lens. Could have a wider apature but ok for most work. I am very happy with this lens. Only my large format camera lenses are better and they cost much more. Try it you'll like it.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AF Lens For Nikon:

I bought this lens to do virtual tours with. It is meeting that need well. I have also use it when shooting a large political rally at night, to create some unique views. Lighting at night at an outdoor event is difficult, but the results it turned in were very usable and my clients were pleased. I'm going to rent the Nikon 12-24 just to compare, but I think the price diff will keep me with the sigma. Overall I would rate it very good, and would definately recommend it.
