I'm a sports car racing fan. I have been using a Lumix point and shoot for a couple of years. After making the jump to a Sony A300 it didn't take long to discover the need for decent longer lens. After reading a number of reviews I decided on the Sigma. Good Choice. It was reasonably priced and takes great pictures. What more need be said?

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG Macro AF Lens for Minolta/Sony:

added to my kit lens, I have an effective 18-300 range, great for two lenses.

Bought this for use for sports, longer range nature type shots. It's a very clear winner for macro shots as well, which is what I've ended up using it for more than anything. Close-up shots of details you don't want to disturb, close details on large objects, it performs better at distance than the sony kit lens did at short range.

Autofocus with the A300 is fairly fast and crisp.
I'm somewhat used to the old style, metal barrel so this item was surprisingly light. I don't feel like it's not going to be durable, or I would've returned it. Lens hood is massive.

Highly recommend this lens unless you specifically need the higher end glass, which is going to cost you a lot more - the Signa 50-500 or the Sony 70-300 G class.
