Fully compatible with the latest Nikon digital and film SLR cameras, the SB-800 is currently the most advanced flash in the Speedlight range. As a replacement for the SB-80DX, the SB-800 shares the same specs, but now also features i-TTL control as part of the new Nikon Creative Lighting System, being introduced with the D2H digital SLR camera. The new i-TTL system supports Advanced Wireless Lighting and versatile functions for up to four groups of Speedlights, with 3 remote i-TTL speedlight groups controlled through the master SB-800. i-TTL Balanced Fill-Flash flash control employs Nikon's new Advanced Data Communication system to introduce an improved method for the monitor pre-flash and wireless operation that marks an evolution in higher precision over Nikon's acclaimed D-TTL Balanced Fill-Flash control system and forms the core of the new Creative Lighting System.

Comments about Nikon SB-800 AF Speedlight:

I use the SB-800 with my D90. The results I have so far are great. If you are serious about photography you need to get a flash unit. I was considering also the SB-600, but I decided to take the SB-800 because it can be used as a master when you use multiple flashes. I also preferred the SB-800 to the SB-900 because the of the weight factor.

Comments about Nikon SB-800 AF Speedlight:

I ordered and received it nice and quick. Sis was about to have her baby and I did not want to miss out on portraits and pix that the SB 800 can help me get right. From Box to hot shoe the SB produced some great shots without too much effort in auto and TTL modes before reading the manual. The swivel head allows you to bounce the light and get some nice effects and shadows. I am still learning, but I can see the advantage in using the SB to enhance the already great shots that the D80 can produce.

Comments about Nikon SB-800 AF Speedlight:

SB-800 is still a great flash. Especially now since the SB-900 is significantly more expensive, the SB-800 is a good buy. However it is being discontinued, so get one while you still can!

Comments about Nikon SB-800 AF Speedlight:

I'm a journalist and I constantly use my SB-800 for indoor or outside as fill flash. The TTL mode is great and the flash is strong enough to light any scene you are likely to shoot. Although it is a loud, heavy flash, it makes up for it. I occasionally use it off camera in conjunction with my SB-600 using my D200's built in flash to set them off for portrait work.

Comments about Nikon SB-800 AF Speedlight:

I ordered this SB-800 to sit atop my Nikon D300. Going from a point and shoot baby Canon to this combination is quite a hefty change. Thus far, the combination seems to be well balanced and highly satisfactory. The batteries seem to stay charged for a good long time.I realize that with my limited experience as a hobbyist,I've barely touched the learning curve on such quality equipment. The only downfall is that it now looks like I'm uncasing an elephant gun at family events.
