Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

This just takes your photos to an all new level! Such clarity and ease of operation. On auto mode the D90 is as easy to use as any point and shoot pocket size digital camera. The abilities of the D90 take some time to learn but boy do they enhance the ability to take some WOW photos! As a photo enthusiast I hope to challenge myself to become a semi-pro photographer and the D90 has just what I need to make that happen. The only con I can list is weight related. My petite wife hesitates using the camera 'because it's heavy'. Personally I don't find it too heavy and is wonderful to use.

We bought this camera for our son's Christmas gift. However, he was headed to an Officer's Christian Fellowship retreat in KY and I let him use the camera early (don't tell his mother, please). He took many wonderful pictures and boasted on the ease of use, quality of the pictures and his ability to use so quickly. This camera replaces his D50, which he is supposed to give to his dad (me).

This is a wonderful camera, with superb image quality and nice in-hand balance. Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

I purchased the D90 after using a D100 for about 6 years. I loved the D100 and I love the D90 even more. Its autofocus is fast (especially with the 18-105mm AF VR lens!), its display is gorgeous, and its controls and menus are logically laid out and intuitive. I particularly like the CMOS sensor that allows for wonderful long-term exposures as I enjoy using the camera for wide-field and prime focus astrophotography. I also take lots of pictures of stage performances and being able to get useful images at 3200 ISO is amazing!

I was considering a D300 when I shopped for the D90, but decided on the D90 as it offers pretty much all of the most important features of the D300 (same CMOS sensor, display, AF modes, etc.) plus there's video too (which I haven't really tried yet...)

A great camera!

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

The Nikon D90 takes great photos. With the same sensor as the D300 but much less expensive, it offers pro performance to amateur and semi-pro photographers.

You can leave it on full auto mode and take quick high quality snapshots without thinking or knowing about ISO aperture or shutter speed. Or you can use Manual mode and take full control over all settings you'd expect to find on a pro level camera. There are, of course, aperture and shutter priority modes that allow you to adjust exposure while keeping tight control on depth of field or shutter speed.

The D90 allows you to program many settings that allow a personalized experience and a camera that follows your intuition. You can set up many of the buttons to access many of the functions and settings on the fly.

The 11 auto focus zones allow quick photo capture with less need to recompose the shot. You can select the focus zone manually or the D90 will select it it automatically. A powerful feature is the 3D tracking mode uses the cameras ability to recognize the subject, track it in 3 dimensions and maintain focus on the subject while you recompose the shot!

The Nikon D90 will allow you to excel whether you are building your professional portfolio, shooting a wedding, taking portraits or nature shots, or taking snapshots of your next family vacation.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

You know what you are getting when you buy a NIKON. This camera is all that i bargained for and more. You may see some posts that list some cons about the camera, i have no cons, except that if this camera is not good enough for you, buck up and buy a D3X. If you are a casual photographer to a semi pro, this camera is it!!

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

I use to do 35mm film with an SLR but got to expensive so I went small digital but now I have finally returned to SLR for the control. We use it to photo my wife's Pastels for making slides for submissions to art shows and also for reference pics for her to use in making the pastels. we like the low light capability and the VR lens, she doesn't like the weight but I think it is okay. it is an excellent camera. i banged it into a doorknob after 1 week and smashed the UV filter i had added but absolutely no damage to the camera or lens which to my thinking means it is robust.

The D90 has been a great way to enter into the d-SLR field. I always loved photography, I just didn't have the funds to buy the camera I wanted. I figured I'd take the plunge and get a great one and I am not disappointed. You can always find pros and cons to every product, but what really matters is the end outcome. This camera takes great photos and I'm just happy to have it in time for Central Park summer shots.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

I just recently returned from a trip to NYC and I used the D90 for the first time after buying it. I used to have an older D100 and I'm so glad I upgraded. The D90 is lighter and easier to use, not to mention you have the built in video capture so there's no need to take out an extra camera for vids. I captured some really great photos with the D90. It brings out wonderful color and the shutter speed is so much faster than my old D100. I also love the automatic flash. The D100 I always had to flip it open manually.Aside from the fact that I had a few problems with getting ISO errors and low light errors (which resulted in me having to physically take the battery out to make it reset) I have no complaints about this camera. It's a wonderful piece and I plan on taking a full-course class in order to learn more about it and photography. When I purchased the D90, I had originally went for the 55-200mm lens, but I wasn't satisfied with the quality of it. So I went back to the 18-105mm. [...]

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

The D90 was a upgrade for me from the D70. It's controls were so simular I thought I had a bigger and better D70. The larger LCD is like looking at a big screen tv compared to the D70. The D90 is solid built and nestles in your hand like a kitten. With the 18 - 105 lens it is enjoyable not having to change lens when photographing children playing and then ask them to pose for portrate shots.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

As an architect and architectural educator, I travel extensively and document buildings wherever I go. When I took the leap from high-quality compact digitals to DSLR, I did a lot of research and testing. I didn't want to have multiple lenses, but I wanted a very high quality image and a wide focal range. I tested several lower end Canons and Nikons. In the end, the internal, 11-point focusing of the D90 combined with this 18-105 VR lens was my choice. I truly don't think that there is a better camera for my needs anywhere near this price range. Even if I had more money, I wouldn't want a heavier camera or lens. I did seriously consider the 18-200 VR lens and I am so happy that I chose the 18-105 VR instead. It is much smaller and lighter and I find that I rarely need extreme telephoto for my needs. I am considering purchasing the 70-300 VR lens in the future.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

I bought D90 (not D60, not D5000) mostly because of its beautiful 3" LCD and VERY bright viewfinder - at 40+ y. old my vision is not that great anymore, and those 2 things help A LOT. The camera takes very good pics right out the box, included Lens 18-105VR is great.
Get it if you can afford it and need any of its features, I belive the D5000 should be also a very good buy, if you don't need big LCD and viewfider.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

This is my first DSLR although not my first SLR. I particularly like how easily I can access the controls and change settings without taking my eye off the subject. The screen is bright and clear. I also bought the SB600 flash for this camera, and I find it extremely easy to get very natural skin tones with this unit. Practice makes perfect, so I put myself in different situations and lighting conditions to learn what the D90 can do for me and force me to explore the different features. After a week of shooting, I am very please and happy with this purchase. The results are very detailed and the colors very vivid.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

This is my first DSLR so I don't have any real comparison. That being said, I love this camera. I researched the heck out of DSLRs and finally settled on this camera as one that fits my budget and still does everything well. I was not disappointed. I read through the manual (which I highly recommend) and have found that many of the bells and whistles are really useful especially when shooting in tricky lighting (which I do quite a bit with my kids indoor sports/activities). The only reason I marked as a con the exposed LCD is because my greasy face smears up the LCD which requires constant cleaning (the LCD, not my face).

I bought this to get back into SLR photography, after having made do with p&s digital cameras for a few years. It is an amazing camera by Nikon, both for amateur and enthusiast level photographers. This camera is great. I am a total novice when it comes to photography, but this camera does it all. You can set all the parameters or just put it on auto and let the camera make all the decisions. Get creative or point and shoot. Either way, the picture quality is amazing. I have even retouched and cropped photos and sent them directly to the printer using the provided USB cable; all without going through a computer or removing the memory card. This is really a computer with a lens. I look forward to learning more of it's intricacies.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

The ability to Geotag images is fantastic for landscape and outdoor shooting-the connector between the GPS unit and the camera is very poorly designed. The straight line connector exposes the power/data connection within the camera to extraordinary stresses, and mine failed within three days--back to Nikon for repair after only 3 weeks! The camera itself is fantastic--much better than the D70 or D70S. But it is very frustrating to have a valuable tool and not to be able to use it!

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

I've taught photography at the college level for thirty years and used every make and model camera you can imagine. I have always used Nikon cameras for my 35mm work. I was going to upgrade my D100 to the D300 or D700, but after I looked at the features and used a D90, I was sold. No, it is not as fast at the D300 or as sturdy... BUT, if you take care of your equipment, you shouldn't have any problem. Not a fan of variable f-stop lenses, but the 18-105 has good glass and mechanically it seems sound.

I love the fact that I can pick it up and use it like a point & shoot for quick shots... yet I can easily use it in manual mode, setting things like "color temperature". The image quality is super. Love the "Raw+JPEG fine" mode. It even works perfectly with my PB-5 macro bellows I bought 25 years ago! That's what I love about Nikon... quality and usability for life.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

This camera is FAST. Shutter response is almost immediate (see picture below of one of my tennis playing friends). Focus is also quick unless the light is low and in that situation it does as well as could be expected. There are too many features and adjustments to describe here but I can mention a few of my favorites. Active D lighting is a great feature that opens up shadow detail in even the most contrasty lighting. The LCD panel is large and bright and has many uses. In camera editing can be useful while reviewing your photos. The camera is easy to use and even the menu has help explanations. Making movies with this camera is very acceptable but it is not like a dedicated video camera. If you are mainly a still photographer but like to record short movie clips occasionally then this camera is for you.

The 18-105 lens is very versatile and a great walking around lens. I was a little concerned that it would not take good close-ups. However it meets my close-up needs well (see the butterfly picture). The telephoto end of the lens is good for portraits and sports (if you can get relatively close). The wide angle and normal part of the zoom is excellent for scenics and group shots. It is very sharp.

I look forward to many years of great pictures.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

After a couple of weeks use, I am just beginning to scratch the surface of what this camera can do. Unfortunately, the manual is not always particularly helpful or logically presented. A DVD with clips showing common "How-tos" would be extremely useful.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

I consider myself a budding photographer. I use the camera for everything from sports to portraits.

The camera is easy to use for beginners, and yet allows you to shoot seriously advanced pictures when you choose.

I would not suggest this camera for casual photographers. However, if you are ready to take it to the next level then this is the camera for you.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

The camera is incredible. My only concern thus far has been the white balance with action shots in a inclosed pool room. I found the pictures to be off in color.
The D Lighting is excellent. I used the camera in restaurant and the background comes out clear and sharp while my subject is well lit and perfectly focused. This camera rocks!
The video feature is cute but not overly impressive. You cant focus once you start recording. Also holding a photo camera while video tapping just feels off some how.

a very good overall camera. Great pictures, amazing details.
The ergonomy is well done and functions are relatively easy to find.
I have though not yet masterized the White balancing at high Iso: pictures get easily orange. I did not yet read this part of the manual though!

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

I use my camera mostly for portraits.I live in India and I am big cricket fan.I like taking pictures of the cricketers.
Good about of this camera is the shutter speed.Wonderful I must say.Faster than human movements.Fraction of nano second, pictures are taken.I have a big list of appreciation for this big monster. When I call this is a monster, because of its size.I hate to carry a big case when I travel. But you need to compensate.A quality picture or a big case to be carried all the time.Overall worth buy.

I've used Nikons for many years. The feel of the D90 is very much like my Nikon film cameras. I am pleased by the response. Although I like the active d-lighting, the highlights tend to get clipped in high contrast shots. Other than that, the camera is an excellent value.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

Love this camera!!! I wish I could afford a bit longer lens, but this one is good, and sharp. Great walking around lens. The focus is FAST and the VR is good. The camera feels good in my hand. Grip is good sized. Metering is quick and shutter responsive. The LCD monitor is AMAZING and I've almost sold people on the camera just on the great display.

I took one star off for the issues surrounding the ERR issues related to the writing to the memory card and/or the camera "reading" the lens. I have had a few episodes of this and have been able to clear out of it, but there are others with these issues. I have found that formatting the memory every time I empty the card takes care of the issues - so far.

Otherwise - love this camera!

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

Overall excellant camera (and Lens)for the money. Was concerned at first about the difference between the CMOS(Softer?)sensor and CCD(Sharper?), but find it to be quite good after using it for a few weeks, especially after tweeking pic's on Nikon's RAW format with View NX and after conversion to JPEG on Photoshop, (it would be good if the format was readable in more software though). I found it very intuitive out of the box, but has enough sophistication to keep you busy exploring possibilities for quite awhile!

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

While I'm not a newbie to photography, I have for the last 10 years been using only point and shoot compact digitals. I've had a fair amount of photo training in the past but it's been limited to film. The best part about this camera is the incredible amount of options available but be prepared to spend some time learning the controls to optimize your results. But shoot away as much as you can without the worry of cost in developing and printing. Almost every picture I take in the more automated modes look awesome. It's in low light and specialized situations you'll want to learn to tweak your controls to maximize what the camera will do. Nice feel, highly recommend!!

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

If you have the cash to spend, there is no question you should go with the D90 over the D60. I bought the D60, used it for a few weeks, and ended up bringing it back and getting the D90 after reading about all the features I was missing. The D90 is an incredible SLR with great video capabilities but it's also very user friendly for the novice photographer like myself. I look forward to growing into a more capable photographer as I read and learn more about using this great camera.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

I use my D90 primarily for travel, landscape, and wildlife photography. I have been totally amazed by the quality of picture that I get particularly in low light. Thank goodness for the ease of use of the instruction manual because it is not a point and shoot camera. It is a extremely high quality camera that I learn more about each time that I use it. If it has a drawback, it would be that it is of such great quality that it takes time to learn to use it to its full capabilities.

This is the camera I've always hoped for. This is my forth $1000+ digital camera, and so far it has greatly exceeded my expectations. First and foremost, the pictures are amazing. Everyone who sees the printouts, comments on their extreme clarity. It also has the magic feel of a Nikon- not heavy, solid. The zoom range of the 18-105 lens is perfect for any "around the house" or party type shooting. I splurged and added the 70-300 mm VR lens and now I have a window on the world. You can take this camera out of my cold dead quivering hands.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

I purchased this product to begin a photo side business as a Wedding Photographer. It is a great middle of the road product that gives me great quality but not at an expensive price. I have used it in outings and one Wedding so fare and the photos have turned out great. The bride liked them better than the person she hired. (inspiring as I begin my business) I also have the 800 flash and the grip which gives the camera some beef and both are great purchases. The camera does have a known issue with getting an error while shooting. This is from the lens to body connections and I have taken the lens off and on a few times and played with the connections to get them to loosen up and I have not had this error in a while.Over all the camera is great [...]

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

Yes, we've gotta winnner! Nikon D90 baby!

See...I've been wanting an SLR camera since the day I was born and when i got this on my 25th bday - i was ecstatic. I don't leave home w/o this (except for work of course). You can take all kinds of pictures - day or night. There's a function for every type of picture. You can even use the video camera feature w/o people knowing. I usually edit most of my pictures right after an event so i can burn it onto a cd for people. It's pretty quick and user-friendly and the pictures are almost perfect so there's not much editing. I only do fun stuff on the pictures like fisheye effect or change it to a sepia color. I have to admit that it's a very professional camera but if you learn how to work with the manual, your pictures will look phenomenal. Or if you're not so pro (yet), you can put it to auto and still take amazing photos. Too bad it doesn't have a nicer case though - why can't Nikon come out with fashionable, non-bulky and non-leather bags?! I'm a girl and I don't want to carry those bulky bookbags or sidebags or have my camera exposed like those holsters. I think that's the only Con i can think of except for the obvious.....

Yes it is a pretty hefty price for a camera but the memories captured and the skills you start to obtain will leave you flabbergasted and yearning for more!

This is my 3rd Nikon camera, the first one was purchased in Korea in 1965, while I was in the Army over there. I love the great shots it took of all the action and telephoto shots in Korea. The colors and clarity were surpurb. All manual but still easy to use.
My D-90 NIKON, IS STILL THE GREAT QUALITY AS MY FIRST 1965 MODEL.
I LOVE THE FEATHERS, EASE OF USE AND THE PRICE WAS RIGHT. I BOUGHT 2 MORE LENS, THE 55 TO 200 ZOOM AND THE WIDE ANGLE 18-55MM.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

My first digital SLR. It feels like being handed the keys to a Ferrari after driving Yugos all my life. It's a tad heavy, but not compared to other cameras with its capabilities. The Nikon manual is also a joy to read. The clarity puts Canon and Fuji to shame
PS: Abes made this decision easier with a deal that was almost $200 below other big camera stores' door-buster prices. Incredible.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

I'm still learning to use the camera, but so far it's exceeded my expectations, and my expectations were very high. It's solid and impressive looking. Very fast. Absolutely gorgeous pictures. Any problems I've had, I must attribute to my low skill level/lack of knowledge of digital photography. I've already recommended it to several people. As a digital SLR, I believe from extensive research and my initial experience, it offers the MOST bang for the buck of anything on the market.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

I went from a Nikon Coolpix 8800 to the D90. What a difference!I'm still in the "getting to know you" stage with this new toy. I simply love all the new features, settings, there's nothing that I don't like about this camera. I'm even getting my husband excited about this camera. I would highly recommend it.

Comments about Nikon D90 D-SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens:

This Nikon is a lot of goodies for the money. It is suitable for just about any sort of picture-taking as long as you stick with the traditional optical viewfinder. Controls, features, menus are easy to use and really work. I especially like the quick 11-point focusing and 3D Matrix Metering. I was able to take a few tack-sharp shots of soaring turkey vultures at a Palisades reststop overlooking the Tappen Zee. This is something that would have been completely unattainable with my old film cameras or simpler digital cameras. The only cons are the Live View and Movies functions. As these features are relatively new (especially the first-ever Movies capability) with Digital SLR's, they are works-in-progress. These will improve dramatically with future-generation DSLR's. Nonetheless, I took more movie clips than expected and was overall pleased with the results. The "kit" lens was superb. It is relatively small, light, with useful range and sharp.
