I just got the D90 three weeks ago, but it has blown my mind how good it is. I'm amazed the picture quality and how easy to use. I had a Nikon D40x before, which I loved and enjoyed. I have mostly used the auto features of the D90 and can't wait to get to know my camara better. I found myself making special day trips just to use my D90, its full of fun.

Purchased this as a backup to a D300 based on similar features (resolution, battery, etc) - unfortunate that the memory cards differ. Seems to function well and has good results. Experiencing a little difficulty downloading RAW images from the SD card...doesn't want to play.
Otherwise, respectable lenses and performance.

Always been a Canon enthusiast and never thought I would like another camera. I find my Nikon as good as any Canon I have had and especially appreciate the Image Stabilization, since I take many pictures of my kids in in their sporting activities and often on a distance.

I don't know F-stops from ISO's, and this camera doesn't need me to. Its easy to use for a true idiot photographer, but comes though with incredible picture quality. Don't get you pixals mixed-up with picture quality. I didn't just want a bigger picture from a huge mega pixal camera, I wanted a truly better picture that only good guts and optics can bring. This camera has it all.

Easy to use with Auto settings, with capability to perform advanced functions manually.
Would prefer to have continuous auto focus when using video feature.

Comments about Nikon D90 SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens w/ Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR NIKKOR Lens:
This camera is a big step up from a point and shoot Digital camera. Though it has many features and adjustments to take your photos to a higher level, it takes a bit of pratice. Consider this advice from a teacher... Don't count on the owners manual to get the information you need. It is not very instructive. Buy one of the many books or DVD's that are available for this specific model. They can take you on a step by step course to utilize the features of this great camera.

Comments about Nikon D90 SLR Camera with 18-105mm DX VR Lens w/ Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR NIKKOR Lens:
I've only had this camera for a couple of weeks so have not had it long enough to ram it through a beating yet and see how it handles everything. I use my cameras for virtually everything. Portrait, Landscape, Architecture, Nature, my kids, whatever, you name it, I shoot it. Over the last 20 years, I have gone through a series of cameras including a Canon AE-1 (excellent beginners learning camera), a Minolta Maxxum 650Si (not so good), 2 Minolta Maxxum 7's (Very nice 35 film cameras that helped pay my way through college shooting weddings..) and now my latest, the Nikon D90.
I must say that I have reached the top of my evolutionary chain and it is great to be here.
OK, on the kit issue:
I got the D90 SLR Camera kit with 18-105mm DX VR Lens w/ Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR NIKKOR Lens. I liked this setup as the range on the lenses allows either to be used working as a standalone, but in combination, cover virtually everything I need. With the other kits, the lens ranges were just too limited and required both lenses to be used to gain the range flexibility needed when traveling and trying to limit the amount of equipment carried. The 18-55 just didn’t reach far enough and the 105-300 was just too big for close work making a constant swap necessary. This kits lens combinations, though not Pro due to their less than ideal aperture ratings, allow great flexibility and the D90’s excellent low light sensing make these perform far better than they actually are in reality performing more like 3-3.4 instead of the 4.5-5.6 that they really are.
The D90 is quite simply a great camera and has made shooting fun again. Throw a few 4-8 GB Extreme III cards in the bag with a spare battery (just in case though in three weeks shooting a couple hundred shots plus previewing, live view and some in camera editing, I haven’t needed to recharge yet) and let loose. Get out there and have fun and look at the shots later. Coming from a film background where every shot needed to count or you were paying for it in film and developing, I spent too much time trying to set the shots and missed what I really wanted...my pictures.
The D90 is like skydiving. You can read the brochures all you want but nothing is going to replace the wind in your face while falling @ 100+ mph with 6000 ft below you screaming at you closer each second. All I can say is you gotta’ try this baby.
Some may say that it’s expensive but hey, not compared to the D3 and it’s about as much of an upgrade from the D40 as the D3 is from the D90. Sure there are a few things that may not be perfect like how to easily turn down the flash intensity and have instant access to every control on the camera face with a knob or button, or stop it down in 1/3 or 1/2 stop increments quickly but let’s be real, you can't even get that on the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III at a mere $7,xxx MSRP so just learn to deal with it and move on with your life and welcome to the world of DSLR.
I come from a somewhat retro style camera on the Maxxum 7 (35mm) which I purchased specifically because virtually every function needed was on the body in some form of knob or dial. In all truthfulness, it may be easy to do all of these more advanced functions I find lacking if I actually read the instruction book, but I haven't. In my opinion a great camera doesn't need one as it is simply intuitive in its design to begin with. I have had little or no trouble hammering out great shots just simply doing what I want which is getting shots and having fun doing it.
In conclusion:
As far as a consumer is concerned, this camera is simply mind blowing. For Semi-Pro’s it’s a great-to- excellent camera that will do everything you need personally and for your jobs that pay the bills, you may need to actually read the instructions to make sure you know where every function in the menu is quickly and go practice learning how to do it without taking your eye of the viewfinder, and for you true professionals out there, you don’t really care what I think anyway, so go make up your own mind and just drop the mortgage note on the D3 or EOS-1Ds Mark III because you already know that when it comes to getting the $10,000 shot for the cover of Vanity Fair there is no room for discussion or error anyway so the whole comparing thing is just a moot point for you.
