The kit lenses, while perhaps not of professional quality, are quite good. I'd recommend getting the kit with both lenses, rather than only the 14-42 mm that I bought; the 14-42 mm is good for wide shots -- very little distortion. Very flexible camera, with a large array of custom settings available for special situations, and the ability to save customized packages of settings.

I use this for landscapes and family pictures. The camera is easy to learn the controls and use to capture unique scenes. It only needs more pixels for the size.

I have always been an Olympus consumer. I have finally entered the true digital era with my E520. It does everything either automatically and is fantanstic, or you can still easily set the camera up for manual control. The best of both worlds.

This slr was a replacement for my E-300. There have been many improvements to the features of the olympus. I did not find an issue with the white balance as others have reported. The zuiko lens that I had fit this slr without a problem. Some of the features would be a challange for a new user of a slr, but trial and error would work this all out. I use this SLR for a variety of settings. I would reccomend investing in external flash for indoor use, it just makes light adjustment easier.
