Comments about SONY DSLR-A300K 10.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera & 18-70mm Lens - Black:

I love taking pictures.I wanted something that I could see live in the LCD with one button.
This camera is the only one that will do that with one button.
Let you change the iso with one button.Plus you get up to 3200..you can tilt the LCD up or down..

Now everyone is asking me to take their pictures...Now that's a great feeling.

So you want a great camera that's easy to use, THIS IS IT!
I have not found anything wrong, only its louder then what I'm been using.but that just means its a better camera and it should sound like it. I feel like a pro with it.

Comments about SONY DSLR-A300K 10.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera & 18-70mm Lens - Black:

This is the perfect digital SLR for someone who is looking to upgrade from a non-SLR model. It is ready to shoot immediately after powering it on and the auto-focus has worked flawlessly. I'd forgotten how much I'd missed using an SLR...and not having to view the image on an LCD just to be able to compose the picture correctly, saves a lot on battery life. Now I just have the LCD come on briefly after each shot to display what was just taken...otherwise the LCD is off and I use only the through-the-lens viewfinder as with any other SLR. Completely satisfied with the quality and performance of this unit.

Comments about SONY DSLR-A300K 10.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera & 18-70mm Lens - Black:

I bought this camera after much research. I had two old lenses from a film Minolta AF camera and wanted to re-use them. Picture my happiness when they work better on the sony than they did on the minolta. I have used it on landscape, portrait, macro, sports, multi-frame, and several other instances. It has overperformed in every case. The maneuverable LCD is a lifesaver. The live-view is fantastic. Some of the features I've used have not been easy to figure out, so I've had to go to the manual and work through it. I suspect that's the way for all advanced DSLR's these days. I strongly recommend this camera and the sony brand

This camera has ALOT of good things about it! good weight. Excellent live view!!! ALOT of cheap lenses to choose from starting at $55 used Minolta. doesnt get much better then that! i was able to purchase a 55-200mm for only $55 NIB and a minolta 50mm 1.7 for only $85!this is a very good camera. if your a semi pro i would suggest the a700 UNLESS you want live view. if you want live view get the 300 not the 350 unless you can afford the zeiss lenses. the a300 noise is also lower and it has 3 fps instead of 2. Get a sigma 24-70 f2.8 and you will be quite happy. [...]

I waited years for this camera and am glad I did. All my Minolta SLR AF lenses fit and operate flawlessly. The camera feels alot like the Minolta 5000 and 7000 series, which I am very comfortable with. I have only had it for a few weeks, but have ran through all the menus and found they are easy to understand and use. For all the old Minolta fans, who like me were saddled with a huge array of AF lenses, this is the camera for you.

Comments about SONY DSLR-A300K 10.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera & 18-70mm Lens - Black:

I am just getting in to the photography arena, looking to make additional income. I researched the other cameras in this range [NIKON & CANON] and soooo glad I decided on the Alpha 300. This is nothing short of an awesome camera.I went on my first assignment last weekend... my job was to take stills of a new TV show being filmed in SW Florida. The shows creator was very happy with all of the photos, both indoor and outdoor. I was impressed with the 3fps continous shots I was able to get and the fact that I can take RAW & JPEG together (that sure makes it easier to get photos onto the web quicker). The noise was a problem after 800 ISO. Not a problem for me on this day, but I've heard that NIKON does a better job at higher ISO's. The only other issue I had was the shutter noise. I was not able to take photos during the actual filming because of this. However, this was a special circumstance and most photographers will not be worried about a highly sensitive microphone nearby. In a nutshell, I am very pleased with the purchase, [...]

I've stepped up to the A300 from the A100. Very happy with the A300. It's fast, easy to learn, and has a bright, clear lens. It's hard to take a bad picture. I didn't think I'd use the LCD screen that much, but it does come in handy for those tight spots. But, the live preview eats thru the battery very quickly.

Comments about SONY DSLR-A300K 10.2-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera & 18-70mm Lens - Black:

This was my first personal experience with a digital SLR, but I've messed with film full-frame cameras before.

I tried a number of cameras out and didn't get as good a feel for others. This camera is very well setup, and feels very natural. Beginner photographers and anyone upgrading from point/shoot cameras will love the Live View. It's the best in the business, and the tilt action on the LCD is a little gadgety, but I like gadgety. It was a selling point, that I could manipulate the Live View and that I could take pictures from angles I couldn't see in the viewfinder.

The viewfinder itself, which is a representative extension of the lens itself, is what I'm used to. Compared to the Nikon d60 or the Canon XS/XTs, the viewfinder is both a little darker and a little smaller. I haven't found it to be a hindrance, and the live view is more useful for getting the color and whitebalance info from.

Auto settings are fantastic, and until you know how to use this camera properly, you'll still be great at taking pics - it can do the work for you. For things you'd need to dial in, it gives you what you want. The film speed is best in class, as far as I've seen, and it being better at ISO 1600, and having the ISO 3200 made it an even better value for versatility.

Autofocus is fast and unambiguous. It's been able to lock on well to moving objects or still objects with items in front of it (think light brush or branches in front of wildlife) without problems.

The unit is easy to use, as I handed a friend who's never used a SLR the camera and threw it on auto and let him play. He had very good pics in low light and with different subjects. He never had to ask how to do this or that, he could figure out everything fairly fast.

The kit lens' focal length gives it good range, and has crisp features throughout its length.
I had heard mixed reviews about the kit lens (which came with this kit). I figured I'd try it out, because Konica Minolta used lenses are plentiful and work with the A300 and sister cameras (including used ones on this site - check "used gear"). The lens is responsive and clear, and while there are probably options for a single lens to use everywhere - your walkaround lens - it's still got more ability than I do at this point, and that should go for most people buying this camera, too. It's a kit lens, I've heard similar things about the Canon kit lens.

I did also buy the Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 listed with the camera on the website, and it's fantastic with this camera. I'll save details about the lens but it works very well with this camera in all light situations, including outdoor, wildlife, sports, and indoor macro.

I had the choice of this or the A350 (14 megapix), and just didn't feel like I would notice the difference (which is only the sensor size). Both are great values.

Used a fellow Pro Photographers Canon TOL SLR. Much more complicated and controls of 300 are easier to use than Canon. As a retired Pro w/Studio, I or my wife can use this Sony on Auto or as changed as I want. In addition, it uses all my old Minolta expensive AF lenses. A great buy.
