Comments about Sony ALPHA D-A700 SLR Digital Camera Body:
having used Minolta, & Konika Minolta Maxxums for close to 20 years, this was an easy, familiar camera to use. Short adjustment time. After using a Pentax Spotmatic for many years, and other manual cameras, Minolta was my brand of choice for auto focus. Have a KM7D. In the short time that I have the a700, I think that I'm in love.

This camera has good solid construction. Most of the common controls are selected with buttons located on the camera body instead of buried deep in a menu somewhere.
Beautiful color! Pretty crisp, although sometime a shot needs a tad bit of sharpening.

The operation of the Alpha 700 is smooth and trouble-free even on days where I shot several hundred photo's in one day.. The enlarge feature is great and often came in handy.

This is a great update to the Minolta-Konica 7D. The a700 unit works well; it has very clear and easy to navigate controls and the new LCD is awesome. The auto settings work well. The manual controls are great. I have no general complaints at all with this unit. The Sony 58 flash head works well with the a700 (trash or recycle any Minolta legacy flash head's that you may have left as they do not work well – i.e. way over exposed shots). My $4000 in legacy Minolta 2.8 77mm lens' are performing well with this unit. Bottom line: Sony bought the failing Minolta brand (that I had an “S” load of money invested in), Sony is new to this high end camera gig, and they may not stick with it. The a900 with a 24MB full 35mm capture chip shows promise, and demonstrates Sony’s definite commitment to the high end digital line, but today it is way over my budget. If you do not have a legacy investment in high quality Minolta lens’, I would recommend going with a high end Canon or Nikon camera.

Shot 3000 pixs since I bought it 2 months ago. In the desert, on the sea, in the forest, at home, not yet seen a cons!

Very strong mid-range candidate in the DSLR market. Great package. Can use some older Minolta lenses for upgrading glass.
We shoot weddings, portraits and more with our A700's and love them. In the $1200-1500 range, there's not a better bang for the buck!

Comments about Sony ALPHA D-A700 SLR Digital Camera Body:
Well, after having my hands on the new camera for a short while now, I’ve managed to shoot through several thousand pictures. The thing that strikes me about the A700 vs. other Sony and competitor models is the control. Sure, you could do a lot a things on the A100 that I’m doing on the A700. The difference is how much easier the A700 makes it all.
Low light shooting is enhanced with the addition of high ISO sensitivity, while the use of dedicated and programmable buttons make it easy to switch between color and B&W modes with ease. The same is also absolutely true of the switch from auto to manual focus: a button makes it simple.
As far as the B&W shooting goes, the A700’s 6400 ISO allows me to push the camera to force grain in my images, making for a rougher, more natural finish. Cameras with lower ISO ratings seem to lead lead to pretty smooth gradients all across the B&W image.
I also took the camera out to a softball game, where I got to try a little stopping of the action. I had some fun and got a few decent shots in, though I think they mostly came out a little bright. This is one of the instances where the full manual control excels.
This new camera has gotten me to shoot fully manual a lot of the time. Whereas the A100 made it a little tricky to control both the Aperture and Shutter in manual mode, the A700 gives a separate control wheel to each, making them effortless to change on the fly.
I've used this camera to successfully shoot several weddings, concerts, and portrait sessions. In all cases, its performance exceeded my expectations.
A lot of thought has been put into making this camera a formidable contender in the DSLR market… and I’m glad to have thrown my support behind Sony.

This is the best camera purchase I've ever made. As current top-end (at time of purchase) of Sony's lineup, the a700 is under-rated, especially with the advent of the new v4 firmware update... and Abe's gave me the absolute best price available with quick delivery -- ordered early Monday morning, selected standard free delivery, received in Nebraska on Friday!
