Comments about BLUE Ralph the Wonder Mount:
I will only address it's use with an AKG 414.
It looks pretty cool and is low pro-file being rather sturdy and well built.
It could be used for live as well as studio.
The mount holds an AKG 414 with the use of a large set screw that clamps onto a plastic sleeve which in turn grips the 414 neck. Be careful not to align the screw with the gap in the sleeve. You might make a mark on your mic.
It holds the 414 rather well with an exception.
It's difficult to mount two 414's coincident in order to record Blumlein because the mic is not able to be turned easiy at a 45 degree angle in the shockmount. This is caused by the armatures that extend up from the mic clasp impeding the turning of the 414. With enough fidgiting I was able to mount 2 414's right on top of each other and at a right angle to each other off of a Cascade Blumlein bar.
I tried an audio technica 4050 and it was too large to fit into it at all.
All in all for the price, (especially Abe's amazing value), it's definately a great alternative to the proprietary AKG mounts that cost almost twice as much. The AKG mounts are a bit superior but are clunkier and alot more dough.
