I make instructional videos for software so I need to be able to narrate soundtrack at desktop while capturing on-screen activity to video. This is the perfect solution for mic placement and easily swings out of the way when not in use. Mine is supporting an Audio Technica AT4047/SV mic with AT8449/SV shock mount. That is a fairly hefty combination and I have had absolutely no issues of it drifting out of position.
One caveat - The instructions for the permanent mount say to drill a 7/8" or 1" hole in the desk. The 1" option may be acceptable if the desk is already pre-drilled with that, but for a new hole I STRONGLY suggest using the 7/8" diameter for maximum stability.

You'll never want to use a table top mic stand again. Wish I had gotten this years ago.

The arm itself is ok. Not great, but not bad either. It serves its purpose. However, I had to go to a local music store to buy an adapter to fit the mic shock mount. When I ordered this, I specifically asked if it would match up to the CAD Mics GXL3000 Stereo Studio Microphone which I was also ordering. The answer was yes, absolutely. The reality was no, absolutely not! Doesn't seem like a big deal but when you're 40 miles from anyplace and that anyplace is also over a mountain pass it's just a little more than inconvenient.
