The five-star review says "It doesn't get better". Well if you have deep pockets it can get a lot better, but for this price, it is unbeatable. Really nice that they included both a clamp and permanent desk mount. I've set up the permanent mount on my desk, but also having the clamp allows me to use it elsewhere if need be.
One important caveat: The instructions for the permanent mount state that drilling either a 7/8-inch or 1-inch hole in the desk is acceptable. I only had a 1" hole saw available so I used that and was sorry I didn't make the effort to get a 7/8-inch saw. No matter how much you tighten the mount, the 1-inch hole allows the base to wobble. Use the 7/8-inch hole ONLY. I've managed to fix it, but if the RODE folks read these, GET RID OF THE 1" OPTION in your instruction sheet.
The unit itself is great. I'm using an AT4047SV large diameter condenser mic which is pretty heavy and have had no drift issues.

I make instructional videos for software so I need to be able to narrate soundtrack at desktop while capturing on-screen activity to video. This is the perfect solution for mic placement and easily swings out of the way when not in use. Mine is supporting an Audio Technica AT4047/SV mic with AT8449/SV shock mount. That is a fairly hefty combination and I have had absolutely no issues of it drifting out of position.
One caveat - The instructions for the permanent mount say to drill a 7/8" or 1" hole in the desk. The 1" option may be acceptable if the desk is already pre-drilled with that, but for a new hole I STRONGLY suggest using the 7/8" diameter for maximum stability.

You'll never want to use a table top mic stand again. Wish I had gotten this years ago.

The arm itself is ok. Not great, but not bad either. It serves its purpose. However, I had to go to a local music store to buy an adapter to fit the mic shock mount. When I ordered this, I specifically asked if it would match up to the CAD Mics GXL3000 Stereo Studio Microphone which I was also ordering. The answer was yes, absolutely. The reality was no, absolutely not! Doesn't seem like a big deal but when you're 40 miles from anyplace and that anyplace is also over a mountain pass it's just a little more than inconvenient.
