Comments about KORG nanoKONTROLB Slimline USB MIDI Control Surface - Black:
I am using this product for my thesis. It is useful because the MIDI controls are completely definable. It's also easy to use the Korg control program. This device is very light and easy to bring anywhere. The USB plug broke when a friend of mine stepped on the cable. It looks like it's easy enough to fix if you know where to get the part from but we'll see. It's super useful as a start up DAW controller (if you are more experienced, I'd suggest something with a motorized fader and a little higher quality) and as a live tool for anyone. I use it with Cubase, Max/MSP, and Torq to control effects and faders. The value of this thing is fantastic: only [$]
Comments about KORG nanoKONTROLB Slimline USB MIDI Control Surface - Black:
I use this as my controller for Reaktor. It's great! There's no better controller out there for the price.
The editor software is excellent.
I've installed the drivers and editor on 32 and 64 bit Windows XP without any problems. It works flawlessly on both systems.
A couple of minor complaints keep this product from getting 5 stars:
- The rubber feet are too small. There's not enough grip to keep the controller firmly on the table when using the faders. Some tennis racket grip tape will solve this problem (or mount it to another piece of gear...), but I wish Korg manufactured this unit with rubber grip strips rather than little rubber feet.
- My first nanoKontrol broke when it was dropped. The USB jack is connected directly to the circuit board, and the jack somehow snapped off in the accident (about a 3 foot fall onto carpet - while plugged in). It was completely unrepairable. If the USB jack was attached to the case rather than the circuit board it would be more durable. The same could be said for the knobs, buttons and faders. Remember when you're jamming that you're putting pressure on the circuit board and not the case!
Considering the price I expected to make some concessions with regards to build quality. This is the only MIDI controller on the market that doesn't seem horribly overpriced to me. I bought two, and if this one breaks, I'll probably buy another!
